Hi Everyone.

I was chatting to my brother in China (Havent seen him for a few years) and was telling him about my new XRT with a stock 245 KW. We discussed the "good 'ol days" and the V8s we used to drive and he asked me how the XRT stacked up.

I have to say it frightened me when I looked at camparative KW of those old cars.

My first car was a rice burning Mazda 808. I doubt it had a KW rating (couldn't find one anyway)

VH Commdore - 253 V8 (Stock) 115 KW

XE Falcon 351- 149 KW

Turbo Cordia (remember them?) 116 I think.

VL Turbo Late model camira 150 KW.

Now in their day, although stock, these were beasts. He (my brother) just couldn't believe that stock, the XRT put out 245!!!

Does anyone else out there remember a car they thought was pretty quick only to find it pales into insignifigance against some of the cars out today? Not just the XRT. The RA Clubby puts out 307. Some of you guys are getting 400. For a street car!!! that's awsome.

Anyway, just thought is worth noting. Maybe the good ol days werent so good.

Old skool is the way to go if fuel was free :lookaround: , XA GT HO phrase 4, made 4 or 5 of them b4 the oil scare of the 70s, 450hp cleveland V8, 1400kg approx, 36 gallon fuel tank (around 140ltrs), was apparantly guarenteed 150mph out of the factory back in 1972. If only they made them into production

OLD SKOOL!

I never got a chance to drive a Charger. I knew the Hemi made for a quick car. Was it true they wouldn't turn corners though? They werent a bad looking car either.

As for GTs, well, that for me is THE Muscle car. I read an article, YEARS back about the Phase 4. I think that was around the time that they wanted to phase out V8s wasn't it, or the battle of Monaro V GT was getting silly? Whats happened since then???

I had a Phase 11 HO in 1976 with a tickled Windsor in it. I only prefer it for what it would be worth now if I had have put it away. But to drive, handle and stop. I'll take my R Spec thanks.

I can remember being pulled up one night doing 132 MPH down the Sydney to Newcastle freeway. That was back in the days when the coppers had a more level headed and realistic approach to speeding. Got fined $80, no points and no BS hoo and danger lecture. The copper was more p1ssed that he had to walk so far back to the Radar car, because it took half a Klm to pull the old Hoey up.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh THE GOOD OLD DAYS.

There is a phase 1V being driven around on the DVD "The history of the GT Falcon". Howard Marsden, RIP, also talks about phase 111s being clock at 160mph down conrod straight on the film

The closest I had to an old school "muscle car" was a 1965 Chev Impala with a 327 and powerglide. Pretty much stock, but it went pretty good, flogging most of the pollution controlled V8's of the era.

One thing that shocked me was the weight of new cars - They used to call them "yank tanks", but believe it or not, the BFII XR6T weighs about 50kg MORE than my Impala did!

Ive never been in an authentic e49 (getting rare and expensive $250,000+), but a mate has a val ute with an E49 spec engine minus the webers (has 4 barrel double pumper) and it goes, responsive as anything. Another mate has a base pack charger, stock, and keeps up with his brothers NA BA xr6 manual!

I could be here all day reminiscing about the cars of the 60s, 70s and 80s :spoton:

Well being only 24, I Dont really remember any older beefy cars and especially don't remember being in them if I had. I'll have to wait my 25 years to say (Arh the good ol days of the 04 XR6T with 240kw.

I sit here wondering what am I going to compare it to if the standard kw has increased roughly by 150kw's since then. :spoton:

I think they've had to become more powerful because they've become alot heavier too. 245kw in the XR6t is pretty good but when u think about it the car weighs around 1700kg that power is needed. Some older cars with less power and less weight were quicker than the XR6t as ferlauto87 pointed out.
