I guess we will all know soon enough.

I dont really think chnaging the turbo will make or break the cars response as such, tuning will have a far bigger impact on how the car drives and picks up boost. The stock turbo is an ok size, and as ETM said, its let down by poor boost control via its too small internal gate... changing to an external on my car has changed the way the car responds, but that's not to say its a be all and end all decision.I was lucky enough to drive a 400wkw xr6 fitted with 4.11 diff gears recently, and in my view, this car very good response due to it picking up power and boost straight from the throttle. This had the stock turbo, internally gated.I would say, if your turbo is stuffed, look for a new externally gated turbo, with larger exhaust wheel/housing to allow more flow through the head/turbo/exhaust, this will bring on power sooner (through less restriction) and increase top end power... if the stock turbo is ok, then keep it and look into other areas that will gain low down response. The great thing about have a built motor, is you can have it tuned with more timing advance and more boost down low without straining the rods, so maybe look at tuning.Diff gears (4.11) will bring on boost sooner regardless of all the supporting mods, and is easier/cheaper than changing turbo (and dump/manifold/intake to suit)

groper Member 611 Member For: 17y 10m 13d Posted 08/06/08 12:56 PM Share Posted 08/06/08 12:56 PM (edited) dude, this is turbo 101 basics again... the turbo needs to be ideally sized for the power you intend to make. Big power you need big turbo and put up with the lag. small power you need small turbo and youll get great response... so 'whats best' entirely depends on what you want???And whilst im not calling you a liar senna, I highly doubt the FG has a larger compressor... it just doesnt make sense if its running more boost than a BF F6 which has the same power as the FG xr6t... think about it Edited 08/06/08 12:58 PM by groper

If you go too much power it is wasted in wheelspin, which the standard turbo can do. If its too little power like stock, then its not exactly "ultimate"Totally agree with you about the new turbo groper, but that's what Ford reckon in their tech run-down... There could be a number of reasons for this ranging from Ford wanting better throttle response to limiting the aftermarket boys with top end increases. The result of all these engine "upgrades" is that the same engine now requires 4psi more boost pressure to develop the same power as the BF F6 produced. Upgrade or downgrade you be the judge. Edited 08/06/08 03:06 PM by SavageF6
