Someone will make me look like an idiot if I get this wrong, but I believe the C4 can still be used as an automatic and the Turbo400 has to be shifted manually through the gears. These boxes life is determined by the tuner.. there's a fine balance between shift timing, shift presure, and torque reduction!Look at Dion @ dynomite.. 10.2 with 4speed box in a ute (heavier than sedan)My box is otherwise stock with BF frictions(no kevlar), pre BA Plantery's and a few other earlier LE93 components. It is my second 3 speed after 3 consecutive 4 speeds autos. It will hold 9's easy, but beyond that I doubt it. It depends what you want to do. In my opinion it is heaps more fun to drive.
