hey guys,

I have an amp and 12 inch sub installed in my ute (was installed when I bought it)

and last night it just stopped working.

the sound comes out but sounds like sh*t and the sub isn't working.

all I can think of I've recently disconnected the battery to install some headlights

and also installed some gauges.

any ideas??

Mate -

Can you be a little more specific...

How many amps have you got?

How are the subs wired? (as one connected or two on a two channel amp)?

If it was working, you diss'ed your battery then all of a sudden it stopped working... Check you fuse running from the battery to the amp(s)... It may have blown with the re-connection of the battery...

Also check that there isn't a safety feature on the amp(s) which may have triggered and needs to be reset...

There is lots of things that could be causing this, however I (we other members) will need a little more insite...

Did you reconnect the amp power to the battery when you disconnected it?

Let me (us) know a little more mate...

sorry man im not too clued up on the audio side of things,

theres one kenwood amp under my passenger seat (no idea of the specifics - I'll check it out)

and its running one 12" sub behind my drivers seat.

ive checked the connection to the battery and everything looks good, I'll have another look at the amp.

another thing, I took the ICC out to wire up my gauges, anything I could of missed there?

thanks alot for the help mate.

Ok, you said the sub isn't working, and neither is the speakers right?

Do you know if the speakers are running from the amp, or the icc unit?

If both are not working, however the ICC unit is playing your CD's (assuming who ever wired it up is using this factory head unit and not an extra...) I would think the issue point is somewhere with the amp...

Check that there is still power running to the amp, again there should be a line fuse somewhere which is running from the battery to the amp (might be in the engine bay somewhere)... Normally will look like a plastic round tube about the lenght of 1 and a half 'c or d' sized batteries...

Check that the fuse isn't blown...

I doubt that you did anything when connecting the guages, unless you have damaged one of the line connections to the amp... (assuming that the person that installed it soldered the connections and not just twisted them together)...

1. check that there is power to the amp- either by the lights on the amp or test light/multi meter.

2. check the amp fuse.

3. check the connections to the amp, sub, and speakers etc...

See where this gets u... and let me know...

thanks alot for your post smicky - very informative

ive checked the main fuse under my bonnet, but it looks fine

I'll buy a new fuse and change it anyway as im pretty sure that has to be the problem.

I've blown fuses in my guitar amps before that look fine but are still stone dead.

I'll let you know what happens!
