The next gear is engaged before the first 1 is diengaged so changes are almost instant. TMac F1 cars and GTR gearboxes do not even come in the same catergory as a ZF box. Yes the ZF box is good but not that good. GTR boxes shift in 200millisecss, F1 cars in 60 millisecs. I cant say for F1 but a GTR uses A DSG box setup..... sorry mate bad bad comparo..... and even if you want to go to that step sayin DSG's are faster in a straight line. Yes admitily they are but ive seen comparos with Goldf GTI's which are considered to have a fantastic DSG box and the DSG was only .2 secs quicker 1/4 mile than a conventional manual and that was due to a better launch with DSG.As usual, you jokers need things spelt out for you as you take everything so damned literal.Did I say the DSGs or F1s were auto, no. Just because I didn't take 1,000 words to minutely define my comment, you want to falme my coment.Basically, the F1 cars and DSGs are automatically shifting manuals. The reason being, they shift faster than a manual (incidentally, they all shift automatically, with some manual optoons, making them an AUTOMATIC transmission by definition, and are seen as such by the majority of car purchasers). The point is that at the pinnicle of motor racing andautomotive supremacy, traditional manual is no longer a consideration. The latest gereration Autos (Not DSG, or in F1 or GTR) are also faster shifting than most manuals (certainly faster than your average punter could manage), and are far more fuel efficient. About ten years ago, Merc Australia proved this by challenging Larry Perkins to better the lap times he could run in an Auto AMG, compared to the same car in manual, he couldn't.My comments were in answer to Monza's comment on manuals being faster on a track. It simply isn't true in this day and age. I say again, technology in autos has advanced dramatically, whereas manuals are basically unchanged. Finally, if you want a fast track car, you're barking up the wrong tree picking a big heavy, family transporter based sedan. They are cruisers first and foremost, making them ideally suited to auto.
