I have noticed that bottom end power seems to be affected by high temperatures (38 deg.C.), and there is noticable turbo lag. Today and the last couple of days were cooler, and it runs like a dream!I think it could be caused by the excessive retardation of the ignition when the air temp sensor picks up the hot air. Top end performance does not seem to be affected noticably.Has anyone else detected this on an XR6T auto? I have had the same experience. I don't think the boys and girls in the east have had the consistent hot weather that we have had. I've had my car since the 13th dec and we've hardly had a day less than 30c. it's been confusing because the car's performance has been variable ever since I've had it.when it's hot the car feels a bit sluggish down low. today is cooler and it feels stronger. Guest esky Guests Posted 19/01/03 10:31 AM Share Posted 19/01/03 10:31 AM One possible way to over come it is to install a water-to-air intercooler. That way on a 40deg day, your cooler can run whatever temp you sent the water to. Ie 5degs. A larger cooler is still only going to cool air down to ambient temp, that being 40deg on a 40deg day.Otherwise just turn off the aircon, it will respond well. It was around 42 degrees at the time. I have had the same experience 3 times, and I intend mentioning it at my 3000 k service due in a week or so. I know I'm a dit dumb, but where exactly do I get a consistant supply of 5 degree cold water from Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/464-how-much-is-xr6t-performance-affected-on-hot-days/page/2/#findComment-6770 Share on other sites

Guest JESMAL Guests Posted 27/01/03 11:00 PM Share Posted 27/01/03 11:00 PM Damn....I've got an air-to-air intercooler in mine too...might want to install a DAIKIN split air unit right now :D OK, smart aleck comments aside (for me that is), I too noticed sluggish response during hotter days, but what the heck, with Winter just 2 months away, I guess it's worth the wait.No so sure about water-sprays, like those on the WRX STi. I used to drive one (STi Ver.5 Type R) but during hot days (38-40 degs), the watersprays does really little to cool down air temperature. But during winter temperatures, the air is so damn bloody cold, water spray or no water spray makes no difference. So in conclusion, I'd say dump that idea. My only advice is to upgrade everything that sucks in air :o meaning the air filter. On my XR6, I'm using the BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox (CDA) (which costs around the $500 mark) and its friggin excellent. When the car used to be NA (completely clean without any mods), installing the CDA gave it an instant ommpfft!!!! I definitely recommend the BMC CDA.
