Hi guys

I am seriously considering the new FG F6. Would you guys choose auto or manual?

I have only ever owned manual cars and my last car was a 05 WRX STI (which I sorely miss 220kws atw) :roflmbo::crybaby:

Those who have tracked their autos can you let me know what it was like?

Is the "sequential" (tiptronic) gearbox worthwhile?

How much faster is the auto in comparison to the manual

Thanks all

Hey mate,

I was in a very similar situation as you...

Came from a Suby - in my case Liberty GT, Manual and into an FPV...

Took me a few days to decide on what the next box would be...

In the end, ended up with the ZF Auto... basically asked myself, city, clutch, gear change... aaahhhh just to much of a pain in the arse... and if I want to play a little just flick it over into manual mode and off I go...

only miss a real manual on the odd moment I would have normally hooked the corner round a corner and when I would have dumped the clutch to be a smart arse...

So im 95% happy happy with the ZF...

Mind you this is in a BFII Rspec F6... not the FG...

Do a bit of a search and you will find pages and pages on this topic from previous members - relating to the BFII and earlier, however might shed some light in any case..

BTW - Welcome to the site!

Auto is the only way to go on the Turbos.

Having owned both a manual and Auto Falcon turbo, the ZF is by far the best choice.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! DON'T LISTEN TO THESE OLD MEN! THEY NEED TO HARDEN THE F UP!

DRIVE A REAL MANS TRANSMISSION! GO THE MANUAL! lol

You'll ask yourself why you didn't get a manual more than you'll ask yourself why you didn't get an auto!

Mate don't forget that most of the replies will be based on the T56 but the new box is supposed to be much better, smoother and clunk free.

Auto is faster on the strip manual on the track

If you like changing gears and don't do a lot of peak hour stop and go driving - go Manual

If you want you car for the drag strip - go Auto

If you like track better - Go Manual

Auto is better for burnouts - go Auto

Manual is fun - go Manual

I would go manual but that's just me, take both for a drive and decide for yourself.

What did you mean...is it good?

Yeah it is. Does everything it’s supposed to, very sharp and practically instant in the changes provided that your revs are in the right spot (I.e. it won’t change down if it’ll hit the limiter)

It does have a few little quirks like dropping back to second when you stop, if you want first then you need to select it manually. Also has an emergency kick-down feature, which will automatically drop it down a gear if it thinks you need it when you stomp on the go pedal. Have never experienced this myself but I imagine it would be invoked if you were say in 5th gear going 60 km/h and stomp the pedal it will change down a gear even though it’s in manual mode.

And then you can just move your left leg up and down while you’re changing if you have troubles with masculinity insecurities like some people :useless:

Is it a coincidence that when you change around the lettering in auto and a letter or two, you spell "I am a bloody nancy boy". Surely this says it all.

Ha ha - yeah right!

ZF in the turbo, great combo...

Don't know about the new man box, but if your in the city... and sick of the whole clutch and gear change crap then get the ZF...

But if u have open road and room to make the thing move more often then not... and the new man box is better then the T56 then it could be an interesting situation...

If I was back in the country I would have go with a Manual... but city... just cant be bothered anymore..

So I guess I have to agree with R-Spec... but only if the room to move and play is there more often then not!

BTW - Manual mode on the ZF is pretty good... As Tab's has mentioned his pretty much on the mark...

Most of the time its an Auto (if you like) and 'like' a clutch less manual when u want... without needing to find the right gear... Yeah it does have an override/safety feature, and knocks down if you put your foot to the floor, yet at low revs... if u dont knock it back when slowing up, it will knock it back for you also... and yes Tab's is right, it will drop to 2nd, but not 1st... u can knock it into 1st urself if u like, or just give it a boot full and it will kick down again upon take off!

Basically 90% (maybe) of the same gear change control you would normally have in a manual (when driving it correctly)...

But drive both - that's a must!
