Hey guys,

Serious question with this one..

Looks like im going "back on the road again"!

As I'm not wanting to go and rack up 30,000 on the F6 in the next 12 months, any ideas on what to get as a weekly shopping cart/work run around?

Work - Sales Management... so im a suit most days, and when not on a plane heading interstate, im running around all over the city, basically in client visits and meetings with the sales guys etc...

Was looking at up to around $10,000 +/- maybe a diesel (dare I say it...), mid 90's model...

Had a quick look on carpoint and there is a handful of Mercs, and a number of Freelander's, and a few Audi's...

Basically want something clean, comfy, and cheap to run, without being the size of a Echo...

The Rspec will be the weekend beast...

Any ideas, or thoughts?

2nd hand Xt falcon lpg if you can get it, or dare I say it a 380

2nd hand euros I would stay clear of, servicing and parts will be a killer.

you could get a japanese Late model camira for around that Silvia or 180sx maybe a 33 skyline for a bit more otherwise you could look at corolla hatches, depends if you still want something with some power or not I guess, heaps of options for 10K

Magna's suffered lovely from auto gearbox issues, so I would steer clear of them. If you can afford it go for a 380. WAYYYYYY better spec'd than any other decent sized car of its class, uses less fuel than a Late model camira and has more power.

AU on LPG.

Probably the most reliable falcon ever, cheap parts, and runs well on gas.

Plus because they are ugly they are cheap as chips, probably get an AUII or III Fairmont with a few options ticked for that sort of money.

hhhmmm....

Basically just need something cheap to run... power isn't going to be that much of an issue, as I had the Liby GT for 18mth (brand new), and it just cost me far to much as a work car... Hence when I went for a bit of a career change - office bound late last year decided to get the F6... Silly me didnt consider falling back into my old career life a few months later...

GT = Fuel costs, and racked up the km's like a wild horse in the bush! Value on the car just died in the arse...

So not keen on a repeat with the FPV...

However will keep the F6 for the fun times when I crave that squirt of power!

Hence was think of a Diesel... :(

Considering I will be racking up 300-500km's a week on average!

The 380 might be something worth consideration... Not sure on the 180sx, 200sx/silvia etc... one a rice boy but always a rice boy I guess... it is tempting but in comes the fuel bill again!

'Something that runs on the sniff of an oily rag' would be a better option...While not being a echo, focus, or anything that extreme...

At the end of the day - tax write off, yeah... but trying to start becoming a little more mature and spend money on more important things... Will prob allocate about $15-17k /yr as untaxed car allowance...

Any other ideas?

Forget Diesels at the moment, with the price of diesel it will take a very long time to pay back the price premium.

 Especially with an old diesel, not many good ones pre 2000! Noisey, smelly and didn't have that good fuel economy.

Look for some sort of Corolla or Pulsar. Reliable, cheap to run and reasonably good performance
