Hey all,

As the title indicates, looking at getting a 7,500km service just for peace of mind... Service guys said its not required, but can be done if you like...

What would one expect to pay for this?

I believe its just a oil, and filter change isnt it?:dontknow:

Cheers....

Mate, buy a $10 filter from Ford or Repco and $60 worth of Nulon 10w/50 oil and spend 30 mins doing it yourself.

I did a complete writeup on doing an oil change here. Changing your oil - a Dummies Guide

If you do not want to do it, go to your local garage or Ultratune. steer clear of Ford service.

:spoton::ta: :ta:

Thanks mate - I would do it myself, except as its less then 6 months old and still ironing out a few warranty issues already, I'm on the back foot in my mind with touching anything to do with it just for the moment, dont want them to have any reason to not issues warranty in the future...

Not even willing yet to play with the stereo... and that's killing me!!!

But your right, was thinking of getting Fraud to do the 12,500 services and each of the 7,500 by the local... not sure yet, hence just wondering that the 7,500 might be worth and what others had paid!

Guess I just want to make sure I give her the best possible chance of growing up and staying :msm: ....

:msm:

Keep her as a :dontknow: for a while...

as far as ford service goes you would pay around $160 using a Synthetic 0-40w oil and genuine filter....

I tried to get a price from the local Ford dealer to change oil and filter only.

This was too hard for them to do. All they could quote was the 15,000klm service price.

So I went to an independant garage who for $95 provided oil and did the work for me. I provided a genuine Ford oil filter, I guess because then Ford can't claim a crappy brand filter caused and engine problem.

As for changing oil and filter yourself, yes you can. But I did that once too and found it difficult to get under and work with the car level and then get the old oil drain container out. So for about $40 labour I get it done.

Mate that may be a tad anal, but hey its your ride and your cash.

My question to you is: If you use a genuine oil filter and the right spec oil, how could Ford possibly knock you back on a warranty issue that is engine related because you choose to do an oil change ( yourself) twice as often as they actually recommend? After all, the next required service is at 15K.

How would they even know that the oil was changed if you did it at home and used a genuine filter and the correct spec oil?

I got mine done at ultra tune they guy that did it has 30 years exp and was very good. I wont let apprentices work on my car. the lube Eg service. good castrol mag sync oil, oil filter and your normal safety check was $100.

I got the lube service plus extra check cost me $135 checked the diff, breaks, adjusted my hand break, tires, coolant, battery even plunged in my ECU and tried to fix the throttle body sync. all the bits that break and car came out in good shape. next service it will need fount rotas.

mate id do it my self if its not a log book service and if you want a stamp go and speak to some mechanics and find one you like and trust.

Hey mate,

Ive heard a few stories (may be just stories I dont know), but there has been situations where people have done oil changes and other things have happened (indirectly related) but traced back to the fact the oil change was done incorrectly and caused some other issue... blahblah blah..

As im 'not' a 'trained' mach, or anything by trade then for any reason - doing a simple oil change could have the warranty come unstuck - no???

Hence the question about what others were paying... $100 for a filter and 'GOOD' oil isn't going to kill me, but to pay an extra 60$ or whatever every 7,500km just cos its a ford dealer is a bit of a joke...

Anal, yes - with regards to things such as the car, I guess one could say I am... Maybe a bit excessive when it comes to looking after things I own which are of value..

If you were referring to the stereo, I currently have a lot of squeaks and creaks in he car they have 'meant' to fix, but still there... Hence dont going to pull off interior panels until I know that things are right in the beginning... (The thing is going back again tomorrow, and it looks like they are replacing the dash)...

Anyways - think I might get the first one done by them (as much of a contradiction as that is) considering the car looks like it will be there for a few days again....

And use one of the old guys from a few years ago again for each after...

BTW- Isnt the service intervals 12,500km's, not 15,000km's?

Adds up to a 100 bucks which is what I pay incl parts for each 7,500kms serice. Any more I'd be doing it myself.
