The minister for finance has given me 1200 bucks to find some tyres for our T.....

Since she aquaplaned off the freeway last year, she's gotten a bit gun shy in the rain so wet weather grip is important.......

After doing the rounds today, Ive come up with these.....all fitted and balanced.

Jax Tyres.....Sumitomo HTR Z11........$250 each

Bob Jane......generic brand called Maxxis.......$280 each

Independent......Marangoni Mythos......$280 each

Goodyear......choice of Eagle LS 2000...at $298....or.....Dunlop SP Sport Maxx......$290.

Anybody used these......Im leaning towards those Sport Maxs.....what do you think......

hey Reg!

Mate as a rule I say never skimp on tyres, so get the best you can afford. Alot of guys are raving about the Marangoni Mythos tyres and for $280 they are well priced.

The maxxis tyres are good value for money but for the same money I think the marangoni's are better.

All good tyres mate, just personal preference. I'm sure plenty of people will have an opinion

I have used Maxxis and the sport maxx , both are good in the wet they just are not sticky enough for good power down traction.

Going to try the Marangoni Mythos when I need my next set.

Marangoni's are heaps better then the standard sports maxx imo. Ie can actually hit boost in second in the wet without driving by looking out the side windows.

They are what kept me on mac pass last friday.

Mate -

Only had the Sports Maxx in 19" on the Rspec... and they are not to bad, but was much happier with FM901 Dunlops year ago, and then more recently the 9000's on my Liberty GT... Wore very well... Better then the Sport Maxx - again might have been a different story on the FPV but...

$280 on the Sports Maxx sounds really cheap - I know the 19" were well over $450 when I checked a few months back... However managed to pick up far cheaper then that!

All things being said...

Since your in Sydney - I'll PM you a shop and guys name and number... check with them and you should be looked after...

If you want wet grip nothng beats the Goodyear GSD3's, but they will set you back around $420 per corner which is over your budget. Question for the ministere is, how much is the family worth to you?? Not beating my chest but my car has never been beaten on wet track driver days - and that's all down to the tyres, not my ability, or lack thereof.

There are better tyres in the dry at the super-duper end of performance but in the wet the Goodyears are simply sensational. IMO tyres are the only thing you should never buy on price, buy on quality and performance and it will be the best money you ever spent.

Ok, here's some more......

Smicky gave me two leads...thanks mate.... :roflmbo:

The first was an independent at Granville.....he offered me...

Dunlop SP Maxx....$280 ea

The second was an independent at Chullora.....his deal was ...

Kuhmo KU31.....$250 ea...

Tyrepower......Toyo Proxes 4........$250 ea

Another independant offered me Dunlop SP3000 (same as fitted to HWP cars).....$275 ea.

Confusing or what......and why is it that every tyre guy you talk to always says.......

"These are great mate"...."Ive fitted them to my mates car (always the same as yours), my grannies car and every man and his dogs car.....and the've all raved about them"......

And ....every other tyre you've looked at is crap.....oh' their made in Italy...crap, or their made in Korea...crap and so forth...... :roflmbo:

Jeeez...give me a break

I posted this to see what other people are using, and get their thoughts on what they've been running on.....my only parameters are the $300 ceiling and good wet weather performance....

Other than that.....Im open to any thoughts about this...thanks guys

I'm running Toyo Proxes 4 and reckon they're fnatastic. I paid $385 a corner for 19's and reckon you've got a great deal at $250 ea.

I took mine into my tyre man the other day after 40K clicks and he told me to bugger off saying I was bad for his business. Reckon's there's another 35K in 'em yet. I'm really happy with how they handle and grip in both wet & dry conditions and would gladly put them on again - especially at $250 each

Hope that helps some
