 My neighbour caught me this morning and threw mw the keys to his FG XR6 demo.

First I must say that to drive the car is streets ahead of the VE SV6 I rented for 5 days in March, in all ways, finish, cabin, power, noise. The most noticable improvements are in the handling and general finish and build quality. I also think wheels and motor are being a bit too finiky about the size of the map pockets on the doors and the lack of inside door grab handles. The handling, especially the way you can throw the car around is a huge improvement over the BF. You can turn the thing into corners at rediculous speeds and it just goes around, all you can drum up is a bit of bounce in the bum if you turn really hard and fast into a l or r hand corner, but a set of firmer shocks in the back would fix that.

IMHO, all in all as a standard car, a big improvement driving and finish wise over the BFs, and a better power spread. Hope it does well for Ford, if only they could promote it the right way. As a family or Co car it should do very well in the relative market once the word gets out.

Having said all that I am trading the better halfs Focus Zetec on a new mondeo turbo diesel Hatch or a Mazda 6 wagon. It will all come down to vanity mirors, the sound system, the colour, and other girly appealing gadgets and features :finger: .

I've also been to a few dealers to work out whether the XR6 turbo or XR8 is the go as Ive decided to buy an FG. Both have their pros and cons and I'm 95% on the T however I can't get a drive of either.

Most dealers I went to have an XR8 but won't let you drive it. None have a turbo yet but say it's a couple of weeks away but probably won't let you drive it either.

These sales people I deal with are a bunch of tossers, what is the point of having cars in the show room that you cannot drive. If I could drive any of these cars to get a feel for them and completely eliminate the XR8 from the equation I would sign up tomorrow. One of the places even had an XR8 on the nature strip I asked if he could get a trade plate so I could drive it and he said no but look inside and see what you think. THEY LOOK THE SAME AS THEY DID AT THE MOTOR SHOW AND EVERY OTHER XR6 IN THE LOT YOU IDIOT.

By the way, I am not missing any teeth, I am nearly 30, I had my wife with me and we were both respectably dressed. The cars are not even prestige.

Expensive Daewoo as a comparison when the VE was released had so many cars to test drive I just went for a look and got talked into driving one. Mazda let my wife & I take out the new model 6 when she was looking for a car by ourselves.

Although I am partial to Ford I am sooo close to saying its all too hard, and I am sick of wasting my weekends to try to buy a car.

I got the same thing at my ford dealer on Thursday. Asked to drive the XR6 and got the no can't do bullsh*t. Funny thing is when I was looking for my phoon I got given a test drive of an Rspec without even asking different dealer though.

Its unfortunate that there are bad sales people out there. Sometimes a dealer won't want to Test Drive a vehicle if it is the only one they have in stock. The reason for this is the amount of kilometers accumulated very quickly. If you have an unregistered car with over 100kms on it, no one will want to buy it.

Dealers will generally not want to register a vehicle and have it sit around either, they will want it to be someones drive car.

Falcon,

just wait a little while and do what I did - I arranged with a fellow forum member back in 2003 for a test drive.

As for those funny salesmen youve met, wot a fool, he might have cost himself a sale. I would do everything in mypower to give away test drives. Strange.
