They may look cool, they don't, but the 19" wheels come in at 20 odd KG and the dia is larger than is needed for the brakes.

The penalty for that wheel geometry and weight is,

The loss of wheel and suspension compliance causing loss of grip and loss (FWIW) of comfort, also increase of NVH. (lux pack indeed...) This is what the magazine review identified.

Excessive energy storage by the driveline causing loss of perforance and loss of braking (not much of a performance option either)

As the FG series now offers a choice of wheels designs, one wonders why the options list does not inclide the choice of a true lightweight rim...that would constitute a true Handling Option...

The big wheel fixation is not a Ford issue, all the carmakers do it, compelled by the current perceptions of the public. Personally, I think they should bring back tail fins. At least these have a far less negative impact on the car.

Regards,

aa

I've ordered mine with the Lux pack. Looks somethin like this.

PERFECT photo - thanks. Not sure why I cant find this, must be looking at the wrong part of the site. The leather looks great.

I'm still not keen on the 19's. I will negotiate with the stealer I think. Swap them over to the 18's and give me $1500 back?

The 19" wheels are the shizz! Trust me, I have seen them on vehicles that are fresh of the production line, they are great.

Australian heritage muscle-car racing inspired!

Sounds like your close the action Jonesy. Thanks for the replies and stuff. The 19's for me are just a bit too plain jane. A bit too similar to the BF range. That plus the impact on ride / handling I really prefer the 18's. Personal prefs!

The head of dynamics admitted in Motor that the suspension was set up for the 18's and they didn't do anything to optimise the suspension to suit the bigger wheels, but at the end of the day whats the real world difference, maybe 1-2%. The only difference you will feel will be a slightly firmer ride, but wouldn't the stiffer side walls aid cornering a little bit?

They should have had the 19 inch style standard as an 18 inch wheel, with the 18 inch style wheels optional but in a 19 inch wheel size as they are a better looking wheel, but I still like the 19's. Usually they make the better looking wheel the optional one so more people option them up to replace the plainer looking standard wheels.

I rang the dealer who I will be hopefully purchasing my fg through and I asked whether the luxury pack can be ordered without the 19" wheels and there be a discount because of it. The reply the salesman got from ford was "we dont discount the luxury pack but will just swap the rims to 18" ones from a vehicle in your yard"

Looks like the luxury pack isnt a go anymore!

Does anyone know if you can purchase the "black" centre console section by itself?? I love the black instead of the silver.

Its pretty unlikely you will get any money back ashmo, I would say the dealer would order the car, then when it comes in, swap the 19's with 18's off a stock vehicle. Speak to your dealer though, they may be able to work something out for you

I considered the Luxury pack but after seeing it at the Melb Motor Show I decided against it. Reasons:

1. 19" wheels look the same as my BA MK1 17" wheels.

2. 18" wheels look awesome

3. Dual Zone climate control would be nice but not necessary. Should be an option on it's own

4. Premium sound is a must. Lucky it's an option

5. Had leather in the BA. Didn't like the look of the leather in the FG. Preferred the cloth trim especially the blue cloth with Nitro.

6. I preferred the Silver surrounds to the Black. The Black had finger marks all over it at the show and it really stood out. I tried to clean it off while sitting in the passenger seat and couldn't. It would also show the dust really badly.

So this is my option and each to their own.

Cheers,

Greg

I agree totally with you Greg.

I can't see why Ford force the 19" wheels on people wanting the Lux pack. Since when was Luxury at the expence of a harder ride.

The cost of 19" tyres is rediculous, Ive asked the guys here at work with Clubby's.

Also comes the comparision of spending $5000 on what will still be looked at as an XR. Its never going to be a G6E no matter what you add to it. So in my book if you want what a G6E has then buy a G6E.

I will be either getting a XR6 Turbo with premium sound or a G6E Turbo
