Posted 23/05/08 09:37 AM Share Posted 23/05/08 09:37 AM I had the car at Bayswater automatics yesterday for a trans service and to bypass the factory trans cooler.First phone call was regarding the size of the cooler. With the factory cooler bypassed, the one fitted was just to small. So they fitted a nice big PWR cooler, it's half the size of the A/C condensor.Second was to say that there was a fair bit of metal stuck to the magnets in the pan. When Tim tookm it for a test drive before they started, he couldn't fault it.On it's completion, it seems to drive better, I have not had a chance drive it much, as Tim agreed. My question is could the metal build up be from the trans' last rebuild? Prestons rebuilt it about 5ooo kms ago and this was it's first oil change.

Doesn't make sense.

After the issues I have had, I was sick of driving to the other side of town, to be presented a bill for a 2 month old tranny. It has now been over 6 months since the last build, and the car shifts like new, only firmer. The instructions I gave him, were passed on to me by Bayswater Auto's and since my tuner and his mates use him for all their work, and they are happy and he is only 15 mins from my house. I was able tgo give the car a good work out this morning, and the shifts are quicker and firmer than they were. And there have been no changes to the PCM at all. I will be taking it back in 2000kms to have the oil changed and checked again. Prestons had added some sort of friction modifier to the trans fluid, and I don't believe this was needed as no other auto place I had spoken to uses it in their ION rebuilds. Again, Tim could not fault the shifting, but was concerned at the colour of the fluid, silvery rather than being burnt. In saying that, he used 10 ltrs of oil to flush it before it came out red again, and my thoughts are that after my last rebuild, the convertor was not flushed clean properly.Oh and I had a cooler in place already, but it was not much bigger than a cd case! lol.Bluntly put, I was satisfied that my expectations would not be met by the folk at Prestons, and had heard nothing but praise for Bayswater. Would you keep taking your car back to the same tuner if it pinged when it was returned each time to you?
