The amount of intrusion and the drivers head colliding with the B pillar would not have been pretty without side airbags.Its not good enough any more just to have driver and passenger airbags. This type of crash is common and a key reason why all cars should be fitted with side airbags and not played with by Ford as an additional option, though corrected with FG.I.B.Motor and wheels looked to have survived pretty well.
