Okay - did anyone want to make it an over-nighter so we can fit in an afternoon cruise Saturday through Whitfield (Targa High Country) that stops over-night in possibly in a nearby town then we get up on Sunday morning and head into Winton for the Sunday race? Only reason I suggest this is that on the 2 previous occasions I did Winton V8 Supercars - I was sort of left wanting to do a cruise - but Winton races being a full day in itself meant it was pretty tiring and there wasn't much daylight to fit in some twisties.

We'd need to leave Wallan BP on the Hume Freeway by 1pm on the Sat 23 Aug to get to Whitfield before its anywhere near dusk to avoid wildlife on the road. Wotif is already showing Wangaratta pretty booked out - but the Old Priory in Beechworth is still showing rooms for $90 for 2 people. It's also a block from the main road where the pubs are I.e walking distance. Know some of you may suggest tents etc at Winton but I'd be keener to be at a motel where we can hit a pub for a good meal, have a warm shower and sleep in a proper bed so the next day am in the mood to enjoy V8 Supercars.

Freeway down to Winton (near Benalla) is looong and boring. Good 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Melbourne. I'd rather drive 1 hour from Beechworth and spend the day before doing the Targa High Country route.

Option A

Saturday

1pm - Leave Wallan BP

3pm Targa High Country route

5:30pm Beechworth overnight.

Sunday

8:30am Leave Beechworth

9:30am Winton V8 Supercars

4:30pm Leave for home via Hume Freeway.

If not above

Option B

Sunday

7am Leave Wallan BP

9:30am Winton V8 Supercars

4:30pm Leave for home via Hume Freeway

What do you fellas think who are interested in coming along - I've been hanging out to see how the new Nissan and Mercs sound in the flesh

Lets meet somewhere like The Glen and drive down the monash to like, berwick or something, then take the twisties through lysterfield and then cruise down Burwood Hwy to the city then go down the Prinny.

Top that! Farkin good drive that one! lol spoton.gif

I'm up for this!

When when when???????? Lol

There's no cruiseworthy twisties in lysterfield lol.

The Dandenongs are the best twisties in the "distance to cbd : fun" ratio - just pick a random entry point and try a new road every time. Eat scones, then run over a cyclist and drive some more.
