Just wondering what people think the prices of BF2's will be doing now that the FG is out.

I'm wanting to sell my BF2 T but am considering whether to do the easy thing (trade) or private sale (harder). Looking to "upgrade" (probably the wrong word) to a family truckster - Forester XT.

What sort of dollars do you reckon the above is worth trade, and private sale? I can see trade being a bit dismal considering the FG is now out but hopefully might fare a bit better on the private market.

private sale is tricky so I won't have a guess at that, but your trade in value would be anywhere from $28K-$31K - that's a true wholesale trade price.

To give you an idea I traded a BF2 11/2007 Build with 14,500kms, Sat Nav, Luxury Interior Pack, 19" Alloys, Reverse sensors, FPV steering wheel :fear (5): That came in at $35,000.

Hope this helps you, but I think your private sale price is a decent starting figure

Used car salesman are criminals when it comes to trade ins, they will give it a wash then chuck it straight back in the lot for 5k more.

Lucky I'm not a used car salesman huh!

When you think about it though, car dealers are a business and if we gave you top dollar for your car, then sold it for the same price - they would last very long would they?

That sounds somewhat promising. If I paid retail for the XT (it has a $3000 fleet discount available so I know there is room to move on them) and picked up $32k trade for the XR6T I'd be happy.

Thanks for that..

How nice were you to the guy on the other end though Pat?

Would a better deal for the cost of the new car be struck if he just walked in with a cheque, rather than a trade in plus cheque?

I ask because I contacted the dealer that I bought my BFII ute off to see what the turn around would be on an FG sedan. He told me he would give me 30K for trade in on my 10 month old ute ( which I thought may be a tad high) but then preceeded to give me full retail prices on the new car ( made the turn around something like 20K with options picked which I couldnt really stomach).

I was kinda expecting better as a return customer. Maybe if it wasnt just a phone call he would have done better, but it is a 10 hour drive to his showroom for me!

no dramas mate, just go into a dealer and be prepared to buy the car. If you are in a position to buy there and then, that is a good bargaining point because the salesperson knows if he does the right thing and gets to a certain figure he will sell a car.

Mate - you pretty much answered your own question and were spot on when saying: Trade easy, private harder.

Its really what you can afford to do, how quickly you want the the car, and if you want to do the whole private sales thing or not...

'Generally' you will get more for a private sale - I'm sure you understand the reasons behind this, dealer margin etc...

Is the T under finance or lease etc?

You might need to check with the fin provider first, if the car has a pay out figure and aim for as much as you can to fill the gap... Again im such you understand all this...

Check that the car - if traded has any issues with being incumbent. This may cause some small minor issues also... if you need to 'sell' the car after the funds have been sent to the fin company or not... I'm sure you understand this point also...

If you do use the car for work related (tax purpose) then it might be a good idea to try and off load it before the EFY - however check with your accountant...

I can't imagine the 2nd hand resale value on a BF2 changing much yet, as there shouldn't be to many 2nd hand FG's around until at least a few months...

Check the value on carpoint for the same spec ride as you have and this will give you a good idea of the private resale value...

If trading take a day out and drive to a few yards and ask for the car to be valued, that will give you a good idea of trade pricing will be also...

Best of luck, and enjoy the Suby!
