Since I have owned the car (at 16,000k's) or as far as I can remember, when I select sports mode, my gearbox makes ticking noises. It seems to tick when you select first gear from a stand still then drive off and also ticks where the I assume the shift points would be when the shifter is in its normal 'D' position. Its more noticable from outside the car and with the window down. It seems to drive correctly even with this ticking noise here and there. Should I get it looked at (next service 45000k's) or is this normal?

Lately, the gearbox (I assume its the gearbox) makes a ticking sound from a standing start whith the shifter in 'D'rive. If you give about half throttle, say off the lights, I get a few ticking noises in 1st gear. Time to sell it already :)

Pube :idunno: I'd be getting that checked out. Mine makes no ticking whatsoever.

Or just check that none of your mates have strapped an alarm clock under your car.

I've noticed this since the cold(er) weather started. I often drive in 'manual' performance mode, and it happens when I shift up. Doesn't seem to happen when shifting down.

I usually drive with the driver's window down a little, and the tick *seems* to come from the engine bay itself. It seems to disappear - or become less noticeable - when it has warmed up.

Anyone have any ideas what this?

I think I will get it looked at. Its nearly due for a 45000km service which wont be happening at Ford. I will get my mechanic to give his opinion before heading to ford for warranty. If my mechanic can give me his idea of whats going on, at least I can argu back to ford before they dissmiss the noise from being 'normal'

I've been paying a little more attention. In my case, it has happened on downshift though it's less noticeable.

When it's cold, my clutch(?) or torque converter(?) - sorry, not very good with autos - takes a longer time to engage, and I notice the 'click'. Like I said, it sounds like it's from the engine bay, and it's a tick/click almost like a solenoid.

It's most noticeable when changing gears in 'manual' mode, though I have noticed it when the clutch(:roflmbo:)torque converter disengages at low revs.

It need not be under load either - very light throttle, and shifting gears can make it happen.

Again, once it gets warmed up, doesn't seem to happen. Any ideas from gurus here?

Pube - would be keen to know what you find out too. I'm a fair way from the next scheduled service...

Cheers

Got the XRT serviced the other day and asked my local mechanic to look into that ticking sound. He reckens its the exhaust head shield on the exhaust rattling around. I have some other issues that require some warranty rectification so I will include the exhaust heat shield. Research shows the heat shield tends to come loose and many have had it replaced time an time again due to it rattling around. Maybe I should just remove it altogether??
