Just curious to see if anyone has come across this problem.

Occasionally (which might be once every 10 or 30 times I start the car) the alarm will go off.

Bit embaressing driving down the street waiting for it to stop.

Has anyone experienced something similiar to this?

Ford told me it may be due to the battery if it is running low.

Yeah we have had this happen to a couple of cars in the yard when they go completely flat, but if your car starts OK, I think it could be a fault with the alarm system. Sorry I can't help any further!

yeh usually a flat (or flattening) battery situation, but you're able to drive it down the street with the alarm still going!?

Ford dont have a clue. Sounds like you have a connection problem somewhere there. How old is the alarm?

I used to have this problem occasionally with my BA GT but only when opening the boot before unlocking the doors. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, though it doesn't seem to happen on the phoon. :bangcomputer:

Yeah, it will go off when I start the car and then take about a minute or so to stop during which time I can drive the car while it's still going.

I agree. Not sure if this is another way of trying to get rid of me but the Ford dealer told me that alarms were not fitted standard to the xr6 turbo so it makes it hard for them to know how to work on them unless its at the place where the alarm was fitted.

I'm not sure how old the alarm is. Another issue in itself is that I dont even know if it was fitted at factory or aftermarket because I cant seem to track down the original records of the car when it was purchased.

The original owner bought the car at rod lawrence ford cambelttown which apparently shut down (so im told by another ford dealer) and another ford dealer in cambeltown took them over but when I call them to find out about the car they claim they have no record of it in their database. God I wish there was a centralised database for all records. Tracking down service histories after my logbook went missing has been an absolute pain.

Mate - I have a factory (ford stickered) alarm in my typhoon, and I have a similar problem... Stuffed if I know why it does this, however if I press the disarm button again, it will shut off... Yet to have the the service boys take a look...

I'm assuming that it (sounds like) it is may be a sensor/wiring issue. For the car to be able to drive while the alarm is active, it normally indicates that the alarm does not have a immobilizer function, but rather is only a 'siren' type alarm.

If this is the case, might be worth looking at having a new alarm installed which actually has a immobilizer function also...

If your unable to work out with ford dealer who installed the unit, just get ir checked by a car alarm installer and im sure they will be able to work it out for you.

Is there any stickers or number itched into the siren box?

Check any sensors/wires you have easy access to also...

I had exactly the same problem, my alarm would go off for exactly thirty seconds on starting the car, after an audio "install" my battery was shagged, after about a week of not driving the car the battery was dead and would not recover, even with a solid charge, the car was even spluttering under load.

I got a deepcycle batt and all problems dissappeared, my alarm however is installed somewhere and I cant find it at all, when I disconnected the battery the alarm went off for five cycles of 30 secs so be prepared just in case.
