In my F6 manual when you`re stationary ie. trafficlights or when you first get in car etc. You put it into gear (engine running) and clutch pushed all the way the drive line clunks like an auto would. It`s like the clutch is never fully disengaged. I started to notice this after I had an neoprene bush replacement for the diff bush so it is very clunky. which I think is amplifying a sound that maybe I couldn`t hear before?

But surely it is not normal for the tail shaft to move at all if the clutch pedal is fully pushed in?

it is all "within spec"

the nolathane bush will definately magnify the sound and some people have removed the nolathane unit because they didn 't like the noises it transferred into the cabin.

The shunt is a common thing with the T56, although it is a good box and has double synchros on forward gears, the version Ford Australia uses doesn't have alot of insulation. This makes it tougher and gives a more direct feel

I've had the same issue from new and I have got 38k. I believe that the issue is caused by the twin plate clutch. I think that the second clutch plate drags back into position. I haven't checked with anyone about this.

When I have taken the car to FORD for a service I have told them of the issue with clutch and the diff bush and to me nothing has been done. I think that the shaft that the clutch plate slides on may need lubricating to fix the problem. The diff bush has got a crack in it but I am in two minds in putting in a neoprene bush or the standard one.

I hope someone can verify that my theory on the clutch is right.

regards,

Mine does the same thing, but you can kinda tell it's going to do it by the way it feels when it slides into gear. I think it's the twin plate too.

My mate had a big twin plate in his 299rwkw TT Soarer and it acted in a similar fashion, but his syncros were farked too.

I have also noticed this occasionally with my stock xr clutch. I just figured it was time for (another) new diff bush.

only rarely with the car stationary and the clutch in though.

mine does the same as you cv8 I think the clutch needs to be bleeded again after that is all good no more clunking at stationary position

Got the car back from ford and they told me that all high performance twin plate clutches have a little bit of grip even when the clutch pedal is pushed all the way in?????? and the tail shaft will turn a little bit. Ive never heard of this before and asked a few of my mechanic mates and they hadnt either.??????

Ford ended up giving me a free extended warranty out this, so my guess is that the clutch is on the way out and they dont wanna fix it. An extended warranty at cost price (around $500) is cheaper than taking out the gearbox and checking springs and replacing etc.

I`ll just see it out for a few weeks and see what happens. I`ll keep you guys updated.
