Didnt take the labour boys long did it?

What a crock of :bopp:

Better get your orders in quick boys.

UPMARKET cars will attract higher taxes in Tuesday night's Federal Budget, as the Government embarks on a strategy to hit the rich.

The first Budget tax increase in more than a decade will affect all cars with a price tag of $57,000 and above - about 105,000 sales a year.

The tax, up from 25 per cent to 33 per cent, is aimed at prestige imported cars.

But the rise will affect locally produced vehicles such as the Ford Territory Ghia and the Toyota Tarago Ultima.

Treasurer Wayne Swan yesterday made it clear the wealthy would be the target elsewhere in a tough Budget.

The policy was part of Labor's broader aim of making big savings while trying to protect working families, he said.

"It's abundantly clear there are some people who are receiving government benefits who are on very, very high incomes, who don't need them," Mr Swan said.

The Treasurer's comments signal that previously non-means tested benefits for the wealthy, including the baby bonus and family payments, will be in the Budget firing line.

The Government has already said it will use the Budget to close share option loopholes that allow executives to minimise tax by taking salary increases as shares.

Under the new upmarket car tax, vehicles costing $100,000, which attract tax of almost $8000, will be taxed almost $10,500.

Mr Swan said spending cuts designed to bring down inflation were his Budget priority.

He forecast cuts of between $3-$4 billion in the Budget, but declined to say over what period they would occur.

Respected economist Chris Richardson has said those sorts of cuts would have to be made over one year to produce a 0.25 per cent cut to inflation.

But Mr Swan rejected that calculation, saying there was no "mechanical relationship" between spending cuts and reductions in inflation.

"We've had to make some tough decisions in the Budget," Mr Swan said.

"It's only fair that those at the top end pay a little more for their luxury vehicles and help us put an end to the high inflation and high interest rates of the Costello-Turnbull era."

I don't know what to think anymore.

<Insert random paragraph here>

I'm just glad I don't have the responsibility of running an entire country because you have to take from 1 section of the budget in order to give to another.

So you piss people off by doing this for instance, trying to make others happy, then they'll become pissed off when you do something else to get them other people to be happy..

Yeah I'm just rambling on, bloody few too many ruski's ;s

This is a 8% increase in Luxury car tax. If the government had 1/2 a brain they would only do it to IMPORTED cars as this will help the car industry AND reduce inflation.

The article is also wrong as the tax only applies to the portion of the value over the $57,400 base price, meaning that a $100,000 car would attract $3,400 more tax than before.

Quoted from the Tax everything post:

Every time these Fuktards come up with a new "problem" they use it as an excuse to slip in more legislation and slip in more taxes,

just you watch; Global warming..? lets raise the taxes on electricity, petrol, cars, appliances...ect to discourage thier use,

wow aren't we socially responsible!

(meanwhile the profits from these taxes gut pumped straight back to the unions to repay them for getting labor in, like wow, and that's not going to cause inflation??)

Well hello!

Can't wait to see the "Luxury homes tax" for any house that's worth over $350,000..

Let's introduce capital gains taxes on your primary residence, then you won't be able to buy an investment property,

this should leave more houses available for the battlers to buy!

This F'ing communism under a different name.

That is completely fked...

Punish the people who work hard to get ahead in life, and give to the dole bludgers or non hard workers of this country...

Governments like this one don't encourage people to move up in their careers, they punish them for doing it, can't wait for the libs to get back into power.

Yep, because theyre owned by the unions and we all know unions promote poor productivity .

They would rather have 3 guys doing a job that 1 guy could easily do, and even if the job isnt required to be done anymore you cant sack them because it is deemed unfaid dismissal!

so I've worked 12 hours a day , nighshift, weekends, public holidays for the past 25 years to get ahead and now that I'm almost there I cannot buy a car worth more than $57K without getting ripped off by the same mongrels that have been blocking me every step of the way :bopp: .

So it will probably be an XR6T and not the G6ET (?) I was thinking of (at least I'll have LSD) :finger:

I want to make it clear that im not sticking up for the Government but......

This is a way to increase the Import tax on cars as 90% of all cars purchased in this price range are imported.
