It's a risk they seem to think is worth taking. I reckon some well placed bike routes (to the CBD) would resolve much of the cyclist activity on many roads as any smart cyclist rides the route that is safest. If they're stupid enough to use a hectic road, they'll be squashed sooner or later anyway.its a very small percentage of cyclists that use the roads so that they can get where they need to be..... if you are one well then hats off to you....most get dressed in their little tight outfits... ride in groups of 3 to farkn 15 or more... chat, take over all the lanes, then merge in front at red lightss, some stop some dont (run the light)... its dnagerous pure and simple..the guys/gals that genuienly use their bikes to commute to work are NOT the problem....... its the retards that ride in social groups in peak hour, they do not obey the road rules, block traffic, riding side by side that really fark it up for the rest of the riders.... unfortunately for those genuine riders that commute to work.. the social riding groups, that make up the vast majorty of riders on major roads, fark it up for the other of riders.my view... no bikes on main roads in peak hour.... no exceptions..... What makes a motorist more important, or have greater rights than a cyclist? Is it because they're slower than you and inconvenience your day? That person has just as much need to get where they're going as you do, so what makes your needs greater than theirs? The rego argument is ridiculous. Putting a rego fee on cyclists would see kids that own a bike having to fork out for the privilege. People who don't have/need a car and want cheap transport are forced to pay to get around, or use the already flooded public transport system. Bikes have nearly no environmental impact, nor do they cause road wear & tear that motor vehicles do. Stating things like "I can't stand the pricks, they think they own the road" is like saying the exact same thing about modded car drivers. There are dickheads everywhere. Be smart and don't generalise because you'll never look anything but foolish. "when im at a set off lights and the pricks ride up on your left side and then sit in front of you" is no different to another jerk on the road. I absolutely, 100% guarantee you encounter more idiocy with motorists cutting you off, not indicating, not paying attention whilst on the phone, trucks sitting in the left hand lane etc. If you can tell me that you've had a cyclist pull up and block you more than any of the abovementioned things, you're lying. I'd be surprised if it's even happened more than a handful of times in your life. Don't try to convince me otherwise, just ask the question to yourself and really think about it.If your argument was purely aimed at f*ckwit cyclists, then it'd be justified, but to pigeon-hole all cyclists as kamikazes out to cause all kinds of grief is just ignorant. Remember that throughout everything in life, there are stupid people - some of them ride bikes, some of them drive modded XRTs.I totally agree!Bikes have the same rights to be on the roads and in fact there should be more of them, considering what a fat lot of carnts we are and the fact that fuel is going to be worth more than gold in a couple of years. The reason that some car drives have an issue with cyclists is that the car drivers have it in their heads that the road is purely there for them to use and so have the attitude that THEY own the road. that's not the case! Bikes were using roads long before cars used them. I also find the condoning of targeting and maiming another human being just because they use a different form of transport to you which may cost you a couple of extra seconds in your daily commute to be apauling! Have a think about it guys. Just how important are those few seconds it takes you to slow down and get around a cyclist safely rather than pretending they aren't there and trying to kill them. We as drivers have to pay tolls to drive on decent roads (any seen the poor state of Brisbane only tollway lately), maybe jsut maybe we could privatise bikepaths and implement a tollway kind of system, it would suck that that you have to pay, but the alterantive is to put yourself in danger and ride on the roads.ScottyActually Scotty I dont think that the tolls would be neccesary on a well built bike transport system. If a lot more people rode bikes, the drop in demand on our public health system from obesity related illnesses could probably pay for the bike paths 10 fold. To give you some idea, in 1996 it is estimated that it costs the aussie tax payer as much as $1239 million dollars a year to treat obesity related illness. Thtas a 12 year old figure which is sure to have doubled in 2008. And why disocurage people from doing what is a really healthy thing to do by taxing them with tolls and rego, especially when the only reason to do it is because car drivers have the attitude that the roads are only for vehicles with an engine. Unfortunately it seems that most cyclists are stupid.Just my opinion that's a very general, sweeping statement. I find most sheep are silly. Cows not much better. Dogs are pretty smart although I have seen a boxer wait until a car was coming before stepping out onto the road and headbutting that cars front door panel. With cyclists though I reckon they pretty much are on par with the rest of their species. Some are pretty stupid. Many are intelligent. A lot fall somewhere in between. Funny how your perception changes depending on your situation though. When I am out riding my motorbike, I am pretty sure that EVERY car driver is dumber than average and basically they think that life is cheap ( as long as it's not theirs I suspect). Car drivers abuse their privelidge to use the road and take it for granted as they cut me off and almost kill me (on an almost daily basis) while eating weetbix, shaving or applying lipstick and eyeshadow at 110kph! I suppose they think that not devoting 100% of their attention to the task at hand (driving) is OK though because they have almost 2 ton of metal around them to protect their lower than average IQ, as well as their limbs. Besides which, with my full face helmet, gloves and leathers on, I almost don't look human so its no big deal if they kill me to get to work 10 seconds earlier, right! I should know better anyway. The road is designed for cars, not bikes, motorised or otherwise.Go figure. Edited 09/08/08 12:36 AM by craiginmackay
