I believe the M7 motorway here in Sydney has a purpose built cycleway the entire length of the motorway in order to keep cyclists off the damn motorway. It was a requiremet set down by the governemnt for the private contractors to force them to build the adjacent cycleway as part of the contract.

That's a great idea. Pity these facilities aren't anywhere to be seen in VIC.

Mate - seem a number of people on there. Its actually the cement path that runs along the side of it behind the metal fence... A few of my friends in the west ride on it... Pity its all the way out west... :hohum:

the biggest problem with this sort of track/path is that all to often the tracks are poorly managed - in terms of natural rubbish... (I cant personally comment on the M7 as I have not had a chance to ride on it myself, however it was a huge problem we had with the paths between the border NSW/Vic)... But at the current stage we cant and I dont expect everything... It is a step in the right direction!

 One thing the transport guys here in Sydney did right!

I think I'm focusing on the bad cyclists rather than all cyclists. Like all road users there are good and bad ones, but in my opinion there like putting a go cart in a V8 Supercar race it's downright dangerous and not a good idea.

I always give them plenty of room and do the right thing by cyclists very rarly do I see the same in return, I think Scotty is on the money but unfourtunitly if cyclists have to pay for there road use like the rest of us I'm sure the novilty will wear off.

It is surprisingly well maintained, that often that the biggest hassle is the blokes on it always cleaning and weeding it.

Also a shame they could never look after the track between Albury and Wodonga...

On the 80km/h road I often drive on there is a perfectly wide safe service road yet they hold up the traffic on the main road and sit an arrogant 3 wide.
