I too disagree that cyclists have as much right to use the roads as motorists for a couple of reasons, some of which have been pointed out.

(1) Rego. Motorists have to pay for the privelige to drive on public roads, cyclists don't.

(2) Insurance. Motorists have to pay TPI to drive on public roads, cyclists don't.

(3) Licences. Motorists have to pass a licence exam and pay licence fees to drive on public roads, cyclists don't.

(4) Safety Equipment. Registered vehicles have to have indicators, brake lights, headlights, mirrors etc, cyclists don't.

To keep the discussion going..

1) bicycles don't damage the roads through wear and tear. heavy vehicles pay more rego for this reason.

2) TPI covers damage caused to other peoples property. What damage can a bicycle cause? I'd love to hear examples of a cyclist damaging someone's property in a collision and getting away with it. No doubt it's happened though.

3) Motorists can kill other people. Cyclists can't. Don't give me the swerve to avoid cyclist and crash into a crowd of people at the bus stop. That's no different to a kid on a skateboard, or a kid running out to get a ball.

4) By law, cyclists have to indicate change of direction by hand signals. No need for break lights whatsoever. Head lights would be used by any sensible cyclist when riding at night. If they dont' have them, they fit into the idiot category as discussed previously. No need for mirrors, as head-checks give all the vision necessary.

Are you saying all motorbike riders are stupid? :outahere:

:outahere:

I think it's quite clear that this is EXACTLY what I'm saying.

Proof. This guy did this, so all of them must be bbq-toting lunatics.

This is a very touchy subject for me guys... As a bike rider and having seen a lot of mates near killed by cars (and I'm serious when I say near... Amobs, and cops, with no less then a weeks + in hospital with 10's of stitches broken bones... I think u get the picture)...

Guys understand it isn't always the bike riders fault...

Here in Sydney we ride in 2x and no more, wide roads (which include main roads and highways)... reason for this is viability... So drivers can see us and we can see them...

I agree and personally hate the riders in the city and places alike that run red lights, duck and weave through traffic and just have no respect for anyone else on the road... However its interesting to see just how the general driving public change their driving approach to bike riders in situations such as this....

I ride as often as possible in parks such as Parramatta Park, Centennial Park, etc - however even still we have the rules against us.... Take Centennial Park for example, speed limit is 30km/h and funny enough bike riders are made to stay under 30km/h also...

Not to mention a afternoon I was in Parramatta Park and well run off the road by a FU(4!NG COP!!! (I received a formal 'Sorry' later that night over the phone following a visit to the cop shop)... anyways two days before hand had 2 people walk out onto the road straight out in front of myself and other rider I was with that day... both of us very lucky not to have come off, and whats worse hit the guy who was holding what looked like a few month old baby.... I have also been hit by a 4wd on the wrong side of the road... Came off after pulling to the side and still being hit by the side of the 4wd, the driver jumped out and all she could say was "dont u have a brain in your FU(4ing head"... Nothing about was I ok... so again.... enough said...

So I ask my first question - Where the hell are we able to ride then???

Also - as for the guys who made comments relating to riders on the road coming up beside you at traffic lights.... Let me ask my next question...

How is this any different to motor bike riders?

They are far bigger bikes, and all to often come close to hitting your cars - (Pride and joy guys and girls... I have had no less then about 5 mirrors hit by motorbike riders over the past 5-6 yrs)...

(not having a go or pointing the finger at motorbike riders, as all my brothers are motorbike riders...)

Again - we ll refer to road rage and being upset about bike riders... Yes there are wankers out there, but what about the rest of us... its a sport, its international, its in the olympic, and its sh!7 loads of fun and very enjoyable when we can share the road...

just like driving we have the same pressures, traffic lights, signs, blind spots, motor bikes, buses, taxis, trucks, and in this case cars... Its not easy, and far greater risk to ones life then driving a car...

that's a risk we take, and MOST riders respect the road, and other road users, and ask drivers to do the same...

Just cos we are a little slower at times, how many wa*ker drivers are there on the road doing stupid things - speed, weaving through traffic etc...

Its pointless to make comments referring to bike riders causing all these accidents...

Keep in mind and remember that all riders have is a lightweight foam helmet to protect us and nothing else....

I can guarantee each and every one of the members on here who would like to see us flat on out back with out bike up our ass - guys as a rider that is out biggest fear, road users with a mind set such as that...

Give us a go and u will prob find out 99% of bike riders are another mate, next door neighbor, work buddy, or whatever... They have families, kids, brothers, sisters, etc...

Imagine a family member of urs bike riding for fitness, pleasure, as a means of transport or whatever and being in hospital due to another road user... How would you feel?

Now imagine that are on a motor bike?

Now in a car!!!

All the same crap guys!!!

Again - 99.9% of bike riders are not there to pi55 you off when u drive, as most of us feel the same issues with wa*ker riders as you do... As a driver in a car would u want to take on a fight with a truck? I think not, so what makes u think we would want to take on a fight with a car....

:stupid: Please understand - if u cant jump on a bike and see what we need to deal with... please.....

In the spirit of getting on the genralisation bandwagon, I agree that there are more twits than sensible folk in that profession. At least from what I've experienced in Melbourne.

Not all mate - but a lot of them yes!

One of the bike groups the rest of us are not impressed with.....

hence my light comment towards them...

You ride a bike? That's different - you must be a :freak:

Mate - according to a few of the guys on here I must be... I wonder if they think I have green skin, one eye, with webbed type fingers and toes???

(I dont drive a car - I fly a UFO)....

I love my riding almost as much as an open road with the Typhoon... (prefer the T only cos its got a big metal body - feel safer)...

:outahere:

Funny when u think about it - bike riding costs almost as much as a car (% based calc) when you are keen and love both...

65k for the car (roughly)...

6,500 for the bike...

sunroof - 1500

sunnies - 250

helmet - 350

blah blah - then keeping your life cos you were on a bike - PRICELESS!!!

Extremely small endowed faggots that have sh*te taste in clothing. That about sums them up.

Oh I forgot, they are doing their bit for global warming, well that makes me feel better.

WOW - mate, on what basis can you honestly be sure and say this?

Clothing - I believe most sports including motor racing require purpose clothing...Swimming, running, track n field - then there is footy with short shorts etc...

Small - well generally the talk is guys who have car (not unlike what I believe we all on here drive) are just making up for something... So well what does one say about people on here? (You and Me included)...

Faggots - last time I shagged that model at the trade expo in Melbourne, I dont think she said *beep*, rather not words just sound effects!!! :outahere:

Maybe the bike riders that like cars also might just all be confused???

Thanks for such a positive and helpful post!

I think I have finally read, and said enough... I'm out of this one...
