Hey Guys,

ive had a carputer installed in my car for about 6 months now, and im in the

process of relocating the touch screen to the bottem tissue compartment.

so far I have spent about half a day working on a mould and it looks all good.

the problem is I was working on the screen itself and I have accidentaly tore

the cable that goes from the touch screen overlay to the motherboard (

as seen in the pictures) I dont want to go out and buy a new one cause then

ill be back at step 1.

if some one can please let me know, can this be repaired? how can I

repare it? What can I do? :buttrock:

Mate - that's otherwise known as a 'ribbon' cable...

Take it into a local electronics store and they may be able to replace the cable however depends on OEM and generic parts to suit...

As I dont know if the screen you are referring to is the ICC screen or another aftermarket type not sure what other info I can give you...

I see your in Sydney, pending on where abouts in Sydney, let me know and I 'might' be able to recommend a place to go...

what u can do mate is:

if your handy with a soldering iron, u will need a temp controlled iron on low heat, get a small file or sand paper and gently take the clear coating off the copper strands, once this is done apply a small amount of solder to the copper area(called tining) then get some thin wire(flexable) and "tin" the ends of that and then rest the wire on the copper and apply heat until the so.der melts and a join is formed. to this 2 all and maybe insulate with some sillicon???

just remember not to over heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good luck

( an automotive ECU REPAIR SP[ECIALIST COULD DO IT 4 U, PERHAPS TRY PETROJECT IF U R STUCK!)

Mate - if your black connector which you have broken off is able to be either 'salvaged' and reused, or replaced (if its generic)... I/you might be able to de-solder the flat film wires on the back of the panel with a flat wire cable and reconnect to the connector...

Another way I/you might be able to do it is to have the flat film cable replaced if a replacement is available...

I'm out in the east subs, therefore might be easier for you to head into a place in Ashfield Wagner Electronics 0 they are on Liverpool Rd... www.wagner.net.au

Otherwise check with a place like picturefix or some other repair center like that - just do a search on a CE brand site like Panasonic...

If you can take a pic of the two connections as close ups and send them to me ill take a look... (The black connector, and the soldered area on the panel...)

No probs mate - let me know if there is anything I can further do to help...

I had a quick look around and currently dont have any film ribbon cables floating around here anymore - maybe in storage... However did find a number of standard ribbon type which would work also... anyways pay the guys at Wes/Wagner a visit tomorrow they should have the gear that's needed, if not I would be very surprised... They might take a few days to fix it for you but they can also get the techs out the back to do it...

Keep in mind a few of the guys are not the most polite but they have just about ever single electronic part on their system somewhere, at some point... (unless its a PTY part)...

Let me knof hwo you go... As a last resort I have a few contact with a company that rebuilds and repairs LCD's and Plasma's etc here in Sydney... (However in 95% of cases its not worth the cost to fix...) they should be able to do a small job like this in no time...

:)
