You Won't kill the rust, just slow it down slighty, only way to isolate it completely is to seperate the panels and basically cut it out, chemicals won't actually stop rust unless applied before it starts, just prevent and/or slow it down marginally.

this is a very common problem, believe it or not there is a very similar issue with the terri's as well. From what a mate said who works at a ford panel shop the fix is to actually cut the rusted portion out of the car and to replace it. It is a knowen issue and you should not have any problems getting it fixed by your dealer properly

I noticed this in my car yesterday.....today I go to work and the service manager comes out has a look takes a few pics and tells me ford wont cover that because its water damage from a seal or something :blaah: . felt like telling him I didnt build the thing but was to busy trying to stay calm....on closer inspection my bootlid seems to also have rust right the way round the seem aswell I suppose that is also my fault :pooh: . love the cars but christ the service is up the s$%t. I guess ill wait and see what they have to say. if anyone can steer me in the area of a dealer who might not try to just fob me off it would be great. im pretty sick of eln ford at tuggerah to be honest :roflmbo: .

I have/had the slightest amount of rust on the top surface in the seam in the boot on the drivers side near the gas strut in the BAII. I addressed this with zinc paint and touch up paint.

There is also a very tiny amount of surface rust in the weld spot inside the boot underneath the seam. It appears to be absolutely confined to the near surface.

The above can be repaired under Ford warranty.

I am concerned however about the repair process hacking into the body shell and possibly exacerbating what appears at this stage is a manageable problem. I think I have arrested the rust with judicious application of sealant and zinc rich paint. I may be very wrong.

Warranty is running out. I need to decide in the next few weeks whether to act on not. What do you recommend? What is the the standard procedure for what is a known fault in the B series and is the standard rectification effective or is the cure worse than the problem.

I really enjoy the car, service it like an aircraft and thus and plan to keep it for as long as possible.

Regards,

aa

I wouldn't left fraud warranty touch it. they WILL Phark it up and your boot struts mounts will rust through in a year

I have used this:

Rust Converter 250mL, Septone Products Australia

on underground mining equipment to halt rust in body panels (mine water was 8 times salter than sea water) It doesn't leave a nice finish but if you clean it back, apply this and prime and paint the rust will stop.

IMHO the sedan need drain tubes in the boot strut area. I was appalled at the 500odd mil of water that hang around in that area when the car is washed/left out in heavy rain. I just cant figure out how to install drain tubes without moving the problem to another spot on the body work :stirthepot:

Forget about ELN, my old man will never take his explorer back there after their dodgy service try west gosford instead. They also were complete wankers to deal with when my gf was looking at a new fiesta so they didnt get our business.
