Pete without even looking I could tell you mine would probably be the same, another thread around the last couple of days noted to the fact that water will sit in there for some time after a decent rain, seems inevitable unfortunately.

anyone know if it could be a safety issue through the damage??

XRPete,

Mate I have a rust issue in the engine bay - and have only had the car 2 months, its in a garage each min im home and in a garage when at work in the city...

Having it fixed later in the month... Interesting as the car is a late 2007 build...

Havent had a look under the shelf in the boot, but now that you point it out, ill be sure to check this out before it goes in!

If you havent had the car for 3 yrs, get it checked and have it fixed under warranty!

DAM FORD!!!

Just looked at mine, and I <3 Bananas me drunk its got it there too. Its only about 1/4 as bad as the one shown in the photo but yup there's little bits of rust definitely!

Very weird, the seal on the top side looks great, theres no cracked paint..etc yet the underside is showing signs of rusting.

So is this a warranty job? Where would they send it, and how would they fix it?

its not my car in the pic, but mines similiar.

Apparently ford do warrant it.

Just thought I'd make some people aware of it. I'm not too worried about it myself but some perfectionist's might consider it a major issue. My top seal looks good too.

My cars just out of warranty.

If you car is still under warranty - simple, take it to your dealer and kindly say -

"FU(&!NG Ford - Please Fix this!"

:joy::cry:

They will have a panel shop somewhere that will fix it on behalf of the dealer... then they will send the job card to Ford... Firstly the dealer service dept will need to get an RA from Ford... Then all should be fine...

I have/had over 10 paint faults in my BRAND NEW Rspec, half now fixed, and half (should be) finished mid this month!

Ford paying for all, except the 2 which happened in the show room after delivery to the dealer..

* I have been speaking with Ford in Melb and couldn't believe they had not/don't have a preferred repair/panel and painter list. So it will go to someone that your dealer has ties too...

Was very surprised as a lot of other car companies now have preferred repair centers - ie. Subaru, Toyota, Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, Peugeot, Volvo, blah blah blah...

Mate - Rust can eat the S4!7 out of any spot if it is bad enough and an area which will keep getting worse... ie- area like this...

Even though your out of warranty, id still give 13FORD a call and talk to them, as well as your local dealer... As this is not a one off, rather a wide spread fault - I would say it might be in with a shot! Why not fix it if it wont cost you anything...

:idunno::beeer:

As for how this happens, if the top seal is all good - my guess is, it is running down from the windscreen and/or moisture which is being sealed within the boot due to condensation... maybe???

Or maybe even - consider this, raining out side, cold, water running on the out side and being left to settle... and you have you heater on???

I can't be sure without looking into it, but maybe just 1 or 2 ideas/theories??

Thanks for the heads up XRpete ill be sure to check this out and get it fixed at the same time as the rest of the paint faults...
