A dealer will not buy a car into stock if the REV's check comes back saying money is owning on the vehicle... In saying that I used to work at a dealership and sometimes the salesman forgets to do a check. Its free to get done anyway so why not. I dont think a REV's check will tell you if it owes any money in the ACT though... could be wrong?

What should I do about the car then? I'm thinking about having it master checked by the RAC - but should I do a REVS check? I'm buying this through a dealer...

A REVS check will only show if the vehicle owes money. Given that you are buying from a dealer, a) they cannot sell you a car that has any finance owing, and b) they must provide you with a current REVS check (well, they do in QLD).

I would do the following:

1) RAC check - they should find any evidence if the car has been smashed and they should also comment if they think the overall condition of the car does not reflect the klm's. I'm not a big fan of RAC, but only because I have a personal mechanic who does a ten times better job on car inspections. So unless you have a similar friend, RAC is the next best thing.

2) Try checking through Ford to see if this car has a history. Check the log books for servicing and ring that dealer with the old rego and vin to see if the log book is accurate. The dealer should be able to confirm if the stamps match the computer.

3) Check the log book for previous owner(s) and try and track them down. One quick phone call will confirm anything - they no longer have the car so the chances of them being honest about the history is fairly high.

Cheers

Dan

If it turns out okay then what a find. If you like the power it has stock your in for a treat when its modded. You should get someone to take you for a spin in a modded one as well just to feel the difference.

If this is an independent inspection before you buy the vehicle, then. . . ALWAYS!

yup, I agree hole-heartedly with IB, I made the mistake of jumping into mine too quickly and not getting it checked, not a good idea!
