If it is live tuning it will come with software AND a new PCM, because as Simon said, I thought the PCM software was hard coded only allowing change by replacing the software not realtime editing.

So what is the deal here, we still can't tune our own cars? I know in general it is best to leave tuning up to tuners but it is frustrating we still don't have something for personal use like the LS1 owners (are they using vcmsuite?). There is a subsection of enthusiasts that are clever enough (and conservative enough) to learn to tune their own cars on the road with a wideband O2 meter and a laptop and tuning software.

So CAPA Advantage is for workshops only, Sniper seems to be crippled for home use (is this right? only allowing crude high level changes?) and noone seems to have bought it, and HP Tuner for the XR6 turbo still seems to be vapourware.

If the HP Tuner software does eventuate is it likely there will be a personal tuner edition like the LS1 stuff? I.e. full functionality for tuning an individual car but missing stuff like the ability to tune multiple cars, locking etc?

I have no tuner available here and would like the ability to make minor adjustments to my tune, make use of injector scaling etc, and maybe even tackle a full tune when I feel I am ready.

Apparently the dealer software for CAPA is not that expensive if that's the path you want to go down....quite a few have done that so they can tinker themselves.

Is this the "$2000" I've heard previously mentioned? That's not too bad if its for real... but it contradicts what a local mechanic here said "... we looked down the CAPA route but the software is ludicrously expensive so we'll wait for the HP Tuner software ..."

Does the CAPA solution also require anything further than a Flash tuner purchased like perhaps a serial to USB interface or similar?

I called CAPA a litle while ago for a friend of mine that does haltech, Apexi etc etc tuning and the bloke at CAPA told me it was about $3000 for everything you need to tune the flash boxes

Last time I looked in to the matter, I was speaking to a workshop in sydney forgot the name, they said that there waiting for the HP tuner software to be released for the Ford B series. The way the software works is it replaces the existing software in the ECU with its own HP, apparently it can be pretty customisable. The reason why that specific workshop was waiting for that software is because, they reckon theres not enough money in using the flash tuner, a true custom tune can take a fair few hours and they don't reckon its worth it, where as the HP stuff is way easier to custom tune, this doesnt' mean it has more potential then the flash tuner, though it means more beginners will be able to do a better job, if you ask me and you want a true tune, NIZPRO and CV performance do a pretty good job.

Even though the 2 k tune from nizpro is a fair bit expensive, its compensated by them really tuning it, I know simon can anyway.

I'd stick with the flash tuner at an expirienced place.

Thanks for the vote of confidence our tunes are $1650 at presant including the flash box This is for a three tune package.
