Temperature Problem?

Yesterday I noticed the temperature gauge was reading significantly lower than it ususally does on my drive to Brisbane.

Usually the needle is just going through the bottom corner of the icon (around about a 3/8 position) but this morning it was below the quarter mark. Yeah it was cold (5 degress) but it has never done that before. The sucky part was it seemed to affect the heater, I had to turn it up to max heat to get any warm air blowing in the cabin.

WhenI got into the Ipswich motorway crawl, the temp gauge went back up it's normal position, probably a bit higher if anything.

The night before I flash updated to an 8 psi map, surely that is not the cause. A week earlier I fitted a high flow cat and a 3.5" cat back exhaust but the days after that was fitted there was no temperature change.

Is the thermostat stuffed? Or could it be something else?

on the open road in cool temps just cruising along at 100kph mine sits at 1/4 or just under ,

have you used the recycle air button when the heater is on they work heaps better this way

Its in the tune.. When my car was tuned it ran a fair bit cooler than the factory tune. I was talking to the boys at Cv and they said thay can change when the thermo fans come on etc

For peice of mind you might wanna change the thermostat

puttin a warmer thermo in, in winter might help but as far as thermo fans go if there coming on much before half temp or staying on anywhere near 1/4 temp that's wrong , unless you got the car set up purely for drag racing

I get in my car after work and drive it up the Monash and for 15 mins it sits on just over a 1/4 the whole way. It never goes higher until I get off the freeway. There ain't nothing wrong with it mate  you're probably just noticing a difference because it's colder outside...

There is something wrong with the thermostat, it's probably staying open when when it shouldn't be. It should not be anything to do with the tune, no one in their sane mind would set the fans to be running with temp below a quarter. If they have it's either a f*ck up or they have no clue about that they are doing.

Unless your temperature pickup is f*cked and it's turning the fens on too early, but you would hear them spin if that's the case.

There's nothing wrong with when the fans kick in, the temp goes back to normal in the traffic.

So it's either the thermostat or nothing wrong at all, 'll try the recylce air option to keep my toes from freezing, if that works I guess it would be ok, nothing wrong with a cool engine.

Not exactly, cool it good but if it's under a quarter it's too cool, not very good for the engine, it needs to run at it's optimum running temperature, or close to it.
