Hi guys,

For my buck's night last November I used the tray of my T as the esky

If you are interested in doing something like that, this is how we went about it.

1. Purchase 20 cartons of your favourite beverages. Best to buy the grog in cans.

2. Find somewhere to cool them before putting in the ute. We used 2 fridges and a 250L esky. This reduces the amount of ice you need, time required and maximises the amount of grog.

3. Run some garden hose through the front drain holes so the melting ice water drips out directly onto the ground rather than the tray floor.

4. Do the same through the corners of the tail gate and tape down the hose ends so they are level with the tub floor.

5. Used gaffa tape to seal the tail gate and any other holes in the tub liner.

6. Go to ice factory and get 300KG of ice.

7. Race over to the pre chilled grog stockpile and unload ice.

8. Put a thin layer of ice on the tub floor.

9. Put one layer of cans on the tub floor and cover with some ice so you can't see the cans.

10. Put in rest of cans.

11. Put in rest of ice.

12. Take photos.

13. Close lid.

14. Drive to party and enjoy.

Some other tips, we found it handy to be parked on a slight forward decline (front lower than the back). This way the melting ice drains out the front holes away from the drunken party goers. This way there are minimal pools of slippery water near the high traffic areas.

Get about 4 helpers, it makes it much quicker to transfer the grog from the chillers to the tray.

Wear gloves, the ice gets pretty cold very quickly.

Total cost was roughly $1,000 and was a mountain of fun.

PS

Guiness World Records won't accept it as the world's fastest esky.

what was the faster esky!!??!

Not sure, I think I got some crappy letter saying they don't recognise the category but that would have to be garbage with some of the other ridiculous records there are out there.

It was supposed to take 6 weeks to process the record request but they took 3 months or so in which time the esky had past, maybe that's why they would not accept it.

Pics below, before and after final layer of ice.

Good work, and it sounds like a good party.

This was reported here 3 years ago.
