I know its a hard question to answer but any feedback would be great.CheersHowsee
groper Member 611 Member For: 17y 11m 3d Posted 01/05/08 11:48 AM Share Posted 01/05/08 11:48 AM my tyres dont bite so well when cold, I can light em up pretty easy with just some throttle in the first 2 gears on good road. even 3rd gear on not so good road...As for tyre wear, its entirely how you drive. I got about 10000km from my first set of dunlops, when they should have lasted at least 20000km lol...These new sticky tyres, ive had on for about 5000km and still heaps of meat left, I think they will go 15000km probably, or around 1 year for me. BlueOvalPrint Member 15 Member For: 19y 2m 15d Posted 02/05/08 12:43 AM Share Posted 02/05/08 12:43 AM My first post - after being a member for almost 2 years and getting so much helpful info in that time... big ups to all!Agree that the factory Dunlops are rubbish. My BA1 T is stock under the bonnet and did 51,000 noisy, gripless km on the original SP3000s. Changed over to Firestone Wide Ovals (currently $189 a corner at Bob Jane in 17's) - like chalk and cheese, superb in the wet, very predictable, seemed like half the noise. Made in Japan by Bridgestone with a 320/AA/A rating. Downside was the wear, the shoulders were below legal on the front by 25K even after running consistent 38psi and rotation and alignment every 10,000 km, the centre treads look like they could go another 10-15K. I reckon the tyres would suit a lighter car better, seemed like the weight of the Falc was too much for the edges. I'd be interested to hear from anyone else running these about their experiences...Anyhoo, just picked up a set of the factory 18's and have wrapped them in Maxxis MA-Z1's. Had seen lots of positive comments here, on dark side forums and of course in magazines about the Maxxis Z1s and saw that Bob Jane had MA-V1s (next rung down on the ladder) in 235/40R18s for $189. Rated 280/AA/A. Decided on the V1s as I usually don't drive it like I stole it and the credit card was blistered anyway. When I picked it up yesterday, I was told that the tyres had just been reduced to $179 ea - bonus! Then when I went to drive off, I saw they'd fitted the Z1's instead! Dunno whether it was the fitter's mistake or what, but I didn't have time to go back to the office to find out... You should be able to pick up these in 17's for about $140 ea. I'm staying with my stock rims for the moment (235/45 R17) and am after any recommendations for replacements and the prices for them. My car has currently 250rwkw and I will be eventually looking at achieving around 300rwkw, so if anyone's car is producing around this level I would love to hear from you about your experiences. I also live in brisbane just for arguments sake, but I'm happy to get advice from people everywhere. also prices paid would be very helpful, but aren't critical.thanks in advanceHowseeMate the Potenza adrenalin's 17" are an awesome tyre for the price $250 a corner. I had these on my BA with around the 300rwkw mark and the grip was awesome. I then tried 17" Dunlop’s and maxxs and I was ice skating all over the road. I haven’t found a tyre that grips better for the price that’s actually a full street radial. that's a broad statement as I havnt tried every tyre but from the tyres I have tried the Potenzas were the best by far. Another bonus they have over the Dunlop’s is there ability to reduce road noise dramatically.Im due for tyres as well and Ill be getting Potenza adrenalin's without thinking twice about it.Good luck in your choice. Smoke them tyres Member 557 Member For: 17y 13d Gender: Male Location: Brisbane Posted 02/05/08 11:49 PM Share Posted 02/05/08 11:49 PM I don't agree that the std Dunlops on my BF are rubbish. It all depends how you add to the tune of the suspension, but even std suspension and grip I rate as good. Ford has done a good job with the suspension type, a arm angles, spring, damper and sway bar rates. All the BF needs done to it to provide extra grip is some more camber AND caster on the front end to stop it chewing the outside edge of the fronts and keep the tyre "square" on the road as the body (re suspension pivot points) rolls. This can be done for a couple of hundred bucks by Fulcrum----adjustable camber plates fitted to upper control arms. The rears need a little more camber as well, but IMO Ford has done a very good job for this std car. Remember that this car has good grip std- no real inherent faults. I rate this suspension setup better than a lot of cars. How many rubbish McPherson strut suspensions do you see in real race cars, hell even the Expensive Daewoo V8 guys wanted the Ford double wishbone setup. (and the nine inch and ......uh oh better stop now...).My other car is also a Falcon () that have aftermarket upper control arms to fix the tuned in understeer (read safety for the average mug driver). Its turn in rate and midcorner grip is pinpoint sharp because the camber curve has been fixed. It would have DOUBLE the front grip that it used to have (slightly better than the BF). I had Falkens on this and switched to the same Dunlops. Report on the Falkens would read:good grip, wear rate after half tread as not good (disappointing to poor), causes car to tramline quite badly.Report on these Dunlops would read:better grip than the Falkens (better than the 275 rears), just as quiet, much improved wear and negligible to no tramlining.Rather than spending all that dosh on rims, tyres etc, I think you would get better satisfaction and fang factor from a camber kit and suspension tweak. But that is just my humble opinion!

The Pirelli P Zero Nero tyres were a very close second.

The Pirelli P Zero Nero tyres were a very close second.I reckon that when new the Dunlops aren't too bad but seem to harden up after a while where they do become pretty easy to spin up on a modded car. That would explain why Wheels rated them. They would have been testing fresh rubber on a car with a lot less stick than a modded T. Unfortunately they dont come in a 20 so ill have to look at others if I upsize.
luckyboyd Member 55 Member For: 17y 10m 11d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 06/05/08 02:44 PM Share Posted 06/05/08 02:44 PM I have pirelli pzero nero's and 290rwkws. I bought a set for $900 235/45 r17. I had two newish dunlop sp3000's on the rear before and the pirelli's are a decent step up. If you get the p zero nero's run 40psi in them, they will wear evenly and steer fantastic.
