This is actually quite hilarious; the irony of it all is that alcohol now stand to have about $300m in 'tax' refunded to them! Tax they'd already paid in advance of the law actually getting passed, I think.

That'll teach 'em! NOT

I bet you they dont pass the savings on to the consumer that has already paid the tax on drinks though

A bit hard to track down every 18 y/o that has purchased some liquid underwear remover in the last few months, don't you think?!

MAYBE if they were card transactions they could, but you're right I can't imagine they would.

that's what im meaning the alco companies will get all this money back but they wont make a big "special" on drinks to "repay" their customers

I'm pretty sure they'll keep it, the labor party are running around screaming like the sky is going to fall down but I'm certain they'll keep their $300M once they have finished with the cliche lines to the effect of "liberals signing a cheque for the greedy liquor companies".

On another note there is a high-court challenge against the $900 payouts. :beerchug:

Poor little kRuddy...his world is tumbling down around him.

Perhaps as a PR exercise the breweries should donate this 'windfall gain' to Alcoholics Anonymous or some other community support type group for alcohol. After all it was never really their money...

Not good news but not the end of the world. I only go out drinking 1-2 times a fortnight, and do ~5 drinks each time. Plus I don't smoke. But I don't agree with this taxing mayhem.

Rudd is taxing industry for emitting CO2, it cuts profits and actually makes it even harder for them to research and invest in cleaner technologies. You know what, humans breathe and emit CO2, lets tax humans for breathing.

I heard that the money collected from the tax on the pre-mixed drinks was going back to the alco companies which was then all going to 'drinkwise'. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.

The government is just money hungry and mask everything up with other issues! I think it's an absolute raught what they are doing, and think about how much tax they put on fuel! I read the other day that tax accounted for 70c out of $1.50 worth of fuel! So just for filling my tank up they are making around $42 off my at that price! We already payout enough as it is.

Heard on the radio this morning that apparently the price of smokes will be increased aswell since a 'study' has found the 7 major causes of death have some sort of link to smoking. I don't smoke so it doesn't really affect me, but just another way to pull more money out of our pockets.

Oh wait, I get $900 from the government soon. I love Rudd! :idunno:

(please note sarcasm)
