Brake Upgrade

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I'm looking to upgrade my brakes within the next couple of weeks and was wondering who has done what, how much, who fitted them and any other recommendations that you might have.

Would love to research this but I've got a 2 yr old on one knee and a 4 month old on the other

Any input will be much appreciated

Coops

Just remember not all rims fit Brembos, if you stick with ford 18 and 19" rims it should not be a problem.

If you go after market you may have to run PBR c6, they are not as big as Brembos but they do the job.

That's a broad question. Depends on what your intended purpose and budget constraints are. Having 2 kids, you may have some, constraints that is.

PBR C6 and DBA 4000's are great bang for buck and will allow you do do some track work. If you do more track work then AP racing and Brembos are great but about 3 times the price.

there is an upgrade kit that brendan is trying that has an adapter for you caliper and uses a bigger disc. $650 on ebay I think.

do you do track work?

if not you may get away with some dba 4000 rotors in the standard size. with ferodo 2000 pads they seem to have good bite (this is what I have)

No Trackwork intended - I just want to be able to pull up sharper and protect the family.

Dollars not really an issue but I'm not keen on throwing it away either

thanks for your input so far guys

Hey mate I have done a fair bit of research on this and considering you have young ones I can't imagine you being so silly as to need the big suckers like AP or Brembos.....they are for looks and track work and don't bring a lot of 'value for money' to the street. I have used brembos and PBR C6 on numerous GTP's, typhoons, TE50's etc and from my experience you should go for the following:

PBR C6 'red' calipers, stainless lines, and DBA 4000 series (or 325mm pbr) slotted rotors (best price for these parts is from bcr01...there is a link to his BA/BF ford page somewhere). You can get this as a front and rear package for ~1900 but the rear is pretty much unchanged so might as well just buy the front only for around 1100). In terms of braking you won't need much more than this...maybe the BF factory vented rotors and calipers as a rear upgrade..+700).

You could also just get DBA 4000 series replacement rotors, some decent pads (QFM, Ferodo formula etc) and stainless lines and this is apparently a decent upgrade but I have never driven a car with this. For cost reasons I bought a 330mm rotor and stainless line upgrade off ebay ($430 delivered to Perth) that uses the existing calipers. I will upgrade pads as well. I should have this fitted in around a week or so and you're welcome to come around and have a look if you like?

Cheers!

I did just fronts with the C6 , DBA4000's and braided lines. They work great. Need a bit of heat to work real well but you get used to that. I will be upgrading the rears to BF soon specs soon.
