yep, it seems to me that every time I log on to play games online with my PS3 I receive an update for the system, also think that there is now a wider range of games to go someway to match the xbox's range.

Lucky xbox bastard owners, getting GTR, hope they see in their wisdom to go PS3 as well.

grab forza 2 dan, its cheap now and is a great racing sim!

if its a new console you wont have any trouble with rrod, and I have never heard of a hard drive failure on a 360. you'll be fine! is it an arcade, core or premium?

btw I use mine ALOT, and havent had a drama. couple of times it has locked up but nothing to write home about. it is probably on for 5+ hours every day. enjoy it mate, and be sure to get xbox live. its awesome!

GRID (have played demo on PC and the drifting's great!)

GTR

mint, and just to clarify XBOX live is just the online play thing yeh? is there anything else to it than that? or is that it?

EDIT: got the premium one, the one BIGW had for $500ish and a free game (GTA4, sweet)

Just several links you might want to check out regarding the reliabilty of the 360. Like I said previosuly I have one and do think it is a great console but if you want to spend $600 on a gaming system then PS3 is a far better option.

Not saying there havent been faulty PS3's but the failure rate even after the xbox has been on the market 8 months longer is still only a fraction of the 360 and I know I lost a lot of confidence in the product after having to deal with their service department on more than a few occasions.

Sorry to say you're probably not using your PS3 to its full capability as like you I have both and have found the case to be the reverse.

In what regard is it the reverse?

Xbox has better visuals. It is because it has better hardware.

It has a better network service, period.

It has a bigger range of ganes, period.

Remember xbox has been on the market some 8 months before PS3 I am sure the playstation will be that much better in another 8 months.

Time will make no difference to the hardware in either machine unless of course the components are organic and growing...

yes the 360 is slightly less reliable than the PS3 but EVERYONE ive spoken to that has had a broken 360 has had it sent away, fixed and returned all on microsofts coin in about 5 working days so nothing to complain about really..

ive got a 360 so am probably more biased towards them, the PS3 is still a great machine but Xbox Live and a larger games library sealed the deal for me... as for bluray, I'd rather a dedicated player anyway...

I'm talkin about the basic function of the CPU and GPU and memory system.

All consoles have a life cycle that involves change of the board and circuit layout in addition to refinements in the manfacturing proccess (small die size on chips). It is a byprocess of improvement in technology and reduction of manufacturing costs.

The systems wont be able to make better looking games, however, because the raw processing output of the circuitry will remain the same.

Early models of the ps3, for example, has the entire cicuit board of the ps2 installed in an single chip. This has now been removed though to reduce production costs.

Your arguement that the ps3 is a better machine because it has had less faults doesn't really mak sense. Lots of people havent been affected by console failure, myself included.

The issues with the Xbox were a result of it being leading edge technology when it was releasd.

The PS3 came out some 2 years later yet it still an inferior machine to the Xbox.

PS3 would probably have had similar issues if it had been release to the specification to which it was designed.

Do you know that sony had disabled parts of the Cell processor and the GPU to ensure that their yields of manufacture were higher? The end result is the reason why it does not outperform the Xbox.

If it has been manufactured as designed, im afraid it would have just as many if not more faults than the xbox due to overheating.

Why?

Whats to be gained from having two components when one will do the job?
