PS3 60GB consol won for me mainly because its the console to get the Gran Turismo games. I've got it running through a 1080P projector on a 95 inch screen and there is nothing like driving the new GT-R in GT5 with the in car view on a big screen. Stunning graphics.

Downside with the PS3

1) The heat they generate when running games. You could just about toast marshmellows on the bloody thing. Serious computing generates serious heat.

2) Limited games compared to 360

3) The fan can be a little noisy but there are solutions like add on cooling systems.

4) 40GB systems not backwards compatable with PS2

Upside of PS3

1) Blue-Ray player upscales normal DVD's to near 1080 and the picture quality is fantastic.

2) Gran Turismo - need I say more!!

3) None of the bad media the 360 has for failures and returns.

4) Net cabability

If you want a console purely for games then maybe the 360. If you want a piece of equipment that will blow your mind with movies and games then the PS3 wins hands down - imho

Even the creators of GTA IV have said xbox need to do something about only using dvds for games, as it severely limits game size (dvds are 9 gigs, blu ray is 50gigs). Someone along the lines was quoted as saying xbox will never use HD for games, and considering it is now a dead medium, they're probably right.

Funny how GTA4 runs in a higher res and at smoother frame rates on the Xbox 360.

In terms of hardware, the Xbox is superior to PS3.

I heard a rumour that there is a new PS3 being released in a few months, that will be backwards compatible with PS2 games..... either a 60gb HD or a 80gb. Feel free to correct me!

PS3, and im not a console fan at all.

As its been stated about PS3 is a blu ray player aswell and since a decent blu ray player is more expensive than a PS3 its a simple choice :P

Plus the PS3 is an overall more powerful system than the xbox360.

If you want to play games online use a computer(CS, COD4, Guitar Hero, WoW, ET:QW, Q4, Q3, Warsow, WiC, Company of Heros, Warcraft 3, Starcraft 2 (soon), what im trying to say is almost every online game for console is avaible on PC.

If you want single player action buy a console, its the way I've always looked at things.

edit. to Geeseman PS3 still has some internal driver issues, which give it the assumption of lack of power. Sony should have made the system more stable before release especially since not everybody goes online to download the firmware updates!

my computer is not good enough to play online, but my 360 is!

also be aware that the 360 will upscale standard dvd's to 1080p (via VGA or HDMI, not component) and works as a media extender with wmp11.

the ps3 has the inbuilt blu-ray drive, runs quieter, and can browse the internet (I think). other than that they are pretty much the same.

just a general question here but are ps3 games printed onto blu-ray discs or dvd's? anyone know for sure?

wasn't sure VGA could take 1080p!?

Can you elaborate on the media extender part?? does that need to be done through a hard-wired network? or could it be done wirelessly?

Cheers everyone for the answers and opinions, although I'm now back exactly where I started

:wow2:

We have a PS3 and a XBOX 360.

We find the xbox much better.

It has a better range of games, and wins hands down for down loading updates.

The PS3, you have to wait FOREVER for it to update and can not play until it’s finished.

The xbox is heaps quicker.

Our xbox has really got a flogging!!! Hundreds and hundreds of hours play and we have never had a problem. The PS3 rarely gets used, as the xbox has it all.

We got a LCD tv built for gaming and the picture and gaming quality on both consoles is awesome.

But I guess it’s just like Fords and Holden’s, what ever the individual person likes.

my understanding is that gta4 on the ps3 is only 720p/1080i anyways (same as 360)... only differences in the game is that ps3 had slightly better Anti-alising while the 360 had richer colours not as washed out(just what ive heard)

... .. therefore I ended up getting it for my xbox instead of shelling out for the ps3/gta4 bundle for this reason.. ps3 will be bought for gt5 and metal gear solid :)

ps GTA4 rocks!!!! best game ive ever played!!! is it home time yet? hehehe
