Thanks for that Mal I wasnt sure what I should be getting out of it the thing is it gets better if you put your foot into it if you know what I mean.My concern is the coolant temp goes up to the half way mark when your up it on a big drive.I have to check the plug gap this break but Im thinkn a cooler thermostat is called for.

Hi Quadzy,

First thing I would check is that the cooling system has been purged of all air ie. there is not any air locks in it. Seeing that the coolant reservoir is high up on our vehicles you would not think that this may be a concern as its the highest point of the system so you would expect that the air would eventually head that way, so that they would leave the system full of coolant only. Make sure that the hoses to the converter are all nicely full of coolant and are not higher than the reservoir.. Seems strange that yours is running hotter... Maybe its also running leaner?... which wouldnt be a good thing at all. May be a good precautionary thing to do, running it on a dyno and getting accurate AFR's... I would have hoped that they did that as part of the installation and gas tune? Play it safe mate and get this checked out before it poses a bigger problem...

Yeh Mal it maybe running to lean cause sometimes on passing it alarms! Got to get to Kal for a service(that's the wagon Im talking about),and Im thinking a K&N filter then a dyno tune is called 4.When it does run hot,on idle with the a/c on it sometimes wants to stall the engine, like the idle is to low!

Hi all,

Ive freed up a weekend for vehicle modification, seeing as the pile of parts was finally becoming a hazard around the house ( the intercooler has lived under our coffee table for a number of months, much to the wifes disgust..) and its more than overdue.

The Ballistic cat will get fitted tomorrow morning and then its on with the front mount fitting, after I fit the modified FG plenum, 60lb Dekas and revised air intake system, which actually draws air from inside the front bumper. I/C and intake kit are from Plazmaman, great product painted in stealth black and are actually very comprehensive, with heaps of bits Im yet to easily recognise!

Still, once the fun starts Im willing to bet my left nut that I have forgotten something...

The Brembo 6spots will be a little further down the list, as Im having to borrow a Tig seeing as mine had decided to give up the ghost at the 11th hour!

Just to finish the previous post, after the cat jumped onto the keyboard and sent it anyway, Im hoping to spend Sunday testing and tuning, as long as I get the pipework correct. Ive got the trusty camera all ready so stay tuned for some action pics!

PS Ive decided against removing the torque truncation in the tune, even though its good for a quicker time.

ZF rebuilds are not on my radar just yet.. :spoton:

Hey all,

Got as far as fitting the 5" body Ballistic cat and much to my surprise, the exhaust sounds smoother and quieter at idle and now when you boot it, has a much nicer note, without actually sounding any louder...Double bonus I reckon, as the rest of the system is stock, minus the bung.

Went to remove the stock cooler and realised that the intake air temp sensor is mounted in the cooler outlet and I had not checked before! Damn, now to fabricate an appropriate mount in the pipework..

Back to work, so I will check in with more progress soon.

Well, back to the grind, a good mate and I started tearing the Territory apart, bumper off, lights out and removed all the factory plumbing. Trial fitted the Plazmaman I/C and found a little grinding was inevitable but we were prepared for that. Some more comprehensive instructions would have been helpful, but if you treat it as a huge expensive jigsaw puzzle, its not hard really. Found that the breather to the plenum had blown off at some stage, allowing some oily sh*te to run down the rocker cover down the inlet side, but apart from that, all looked as it should. The power steering cooler will now be mounted above the 'cooler as it was sandwiched very closely in its factory location and I was worried that it may rub thru on the 'cooler body, just need some more transimssion hose and we are away!

Next stage will be the removal of the factory inlet, fitting the external oil feed line to the turbo (Hey, better to do that when its all infront of you.. including the tee piece to I can run an oil pressure/temp gauge at a later stage.

Ive decided to move the gas converter over to the space vacated by the factory air box, it was too close to the turbo and a mega pain in the ass to change the filters there. Lots more to do, so its back to the grindstone and keep the job moving. More updates posted tonite.

Hi everyone,

Heres the latest update detailing a few trials and tribulations. I continued to prepare the FG plenum and finallly mounted the adaptor and gas injection nozzles underneath. The injector blocks needed new brackets to mount them on top of the plenum so I fabricated those.

However the trickiest bit was re-making the little bracket/rods that support the plenum from below.. for without these little feckers, it would not be long before the plenum vibrated itself loose I used the rearmost mounting point, just adjacent to the starter motor and spent an hour and a half gettting it just right. There is no wasy way, just lots of trial and error.

The external oil filter line from Rapidsystems also needed a couple of extra fittings to allow for an external gauge fitting later on but otherwise fitted very nicely.

The power steering cooler now sits above the 'cooler and uses the headlight mounting bolts and a couple of 5mm spacers to fit neatly. It became so tight in in its original location that I gave up and shifted it.

The website is not allowing me to upload any good pics at present but I will have a go now.

Here goes..

Latest developments are as follows:

All hot side piping and under battery air intake piping complete. If you set it up just right, the headlight adjuster just misses the silicone hose, I found this out after the second attempt. By leaving all the joints loose, it was easy to set up the piping pathway so everything somehow fitted.. yee haa. Im running a catch can just behind the passenger headlight, simply couldnt bring myself to contaminate the intake charge with oily vapours, which Im sure that some would undoubtedly find themselves into the intercooler at some stage.

I decided to use the factory FG intake elbow as, again, it was the easiest option and at $40 from Ebay, cheaper that the high-quality silicone bend I had originally intended. Once that arrives, the cold side piping can be finalised and set up next to the relocated gas converter and filters and gas ECU.

Whenever you begin a project, especially one thas a bit out of the norm, allow yourself a chunk of extra time and cash, as little niggly delays always creep in and spoil the party.. It certainly didnt help that doing all of this between Chrissy and New Year also meant that many suppliers are shut til the 10th of Jan, but that's part of the fun, especially if you are a masochist..

I have left all the wiring and gas connections exposed as I'd hate to neaten it all up, only to strip it to find an unexpected leak!

I have begun to change the values within the program to suit the Deka 60lb injectors, just to see how the Territory will behave, with nothing else altered. I will then drive and data log to see how its all coming together, using the Delta Force Data Scout. Probably the best $200 I have spent on tools ever..

If it is all fine, then its time for a run on the Dyno Pack hub dyno and see what we can squeeze out of it safely, both on petrol and then LPG. I have allowed 4hrs of dyno time, including time for the gas tune. Im not keen to blow any part of the driveline out of the vehicle just yet, expecially before the spare transfer case arrives. Then for more real-world road tuning to finesse the tune, for no matter how long you spend on the dyno, the car always behaves differently on the street.

Perhaps then, a trip to the Morplex will be on the cards for some kind of timeslip.. fingers crossed it behaves properly on start-up!!
