Here are a few pics of the kit, tank and associated parts: Sorry if they are a little dark, it was late in the day and the light was a bit crappy. Some of the smaller parts were still bagged so I shall get them online 2moro. The fun begins!!

Heres the problem. There is a fabricated bracket that fits on the drivers side of the cargo compartment and the wheel mounts up against it, standing upright. Small problem of losing the flexibility of having seven seats... I decided to purchase the factory roof bars and mount the spare up there when going on any long trip but around town just carry a coupla cans of tyre inflator and puncture repair. Since having decent cars with good (read "Legal tread depth") tyres, I havent had a puncture for 5yrs.. I realise that there can and quite probably will be punctures that the tyre sealant wont fix, but as most of our driving around is at most 20km from home base, even if I have to leg it home to get the spare wheel, it is an outcome we are willing to live with. I can appreciate that having the damn thing on the roof isnt the most asthetic yet Im sure I can find an acceptable non-fugly outcome... :-) MJK

I have the same trouble with my second car, an AU falcon Wagon (read shopping trolley). It is fitted with LPG plus a dickie seat, so I loose the spare. I have been travelling with no spare for 18 months until 1 night (Murphy was working night shift) I copped a blowout on near brand new tyres. I was 5 Klms from home and the tyre had a 25mm gash in it and a right off. I drove it home at about 20 KPH. Thankfully the alloy rim was fine and tyre had to be replaced anyway.

I have seen one person with a Terra sporting a bracket on the back ala Nissan Patrol style with the spare hanging off it, but it looked so fugly that you would chew your arm off if you woke up hugging it.

I am not real keen on putting roof racks on it either, it spoils the look of the Terra Turbo (IMHO). So no real solution with the 7 seater by the looks.

The other thing that I wanted to ask is that I have heard that the LPG Terra and XR6 Turbos are set up to flick over to Petrol when you plant the foot. Is this correct?

Back at last, things have been a little hectic at work so the Territory conversion has been a little neglected. I hope to commence this weekend ( the only time I have away from work) and am breaking the conversion down into stages. So far, I hope to run to this schedule:

Stage 1: Remove spare wheel and carrier, heat shielding and rear muffler. Fit up

gas tank and bracket and run wiring required to control lock off solenoids.

Fit up gas filler neck into factory filler flap area, just above and to the front of

the petrol filler pipe. Remove and fabricate new exhaust pipe section from

centre pipe near rear suspension sub assembly to factory rear muffler.

Stage 2: Run associated gas lines and cabling from tank to engine bay.

Stage 3: Mount converter and filters, gas ecu and harness

Stage 4: Either drill lower half of of inlet manifold in-situ or remove and drill/tap then fit

injector nozzles and distribution blocks.

Stage 5: Connect harness and final hoses and piping. Double check all fittings and fill

tank.

Stage 6: Tune.

Remember, gas fitters allow 16hrs to do all of this (Except dyno time) which I reckon is a little skinny if you are going to do a really nice job ( Hey, its the standard we would all like to have for ourselves..) so lets see how things work out. Ive broken the job down into these stages to ensure that the vehicle remains driveable at each phase. Now to get down and dirty (and find a friendly 4WD Dyno....)

Yep, you're right in that there is a transition from gas to petrol, then as load falls away it transitions back to sequential gas use. Im looking at the software tomorrow to determine exactlly how the transition point is defined and what is used to determine the exact engine load ( TPS, MAP, ) Will try to achieve a respectable level of boost before the transition in an effort to maximise the gas advantage and keep actual petrol useage down. Hey, if you really hoof the thing, it is still going to use lots of petrol but if most of the driving is off boost then I would expect the gas to do most of the work.

Now to see if the theory will work...
