Now whatever you do regarding work on your car, aswell as things in general .It pays to be vigilante

and cautious .Yesterday I began removing the coil cover to replace my coils(that's anotheer story)

anyway upon removing the coils my arm bumped theoil filler cap it fell down the side of my engine and onto the floor.I thoght I must have not tightened it enough after removing the coil cover .I picked up the oil cap andto my amazement half the thread of the oil cap was gone,so I searched high and low to no avail. Now me being a cautious bloke I decided to remove the tappet cover in case there was any chance of it being in the valvtrain area low and behold there it was sitting between the cams. Now my car has only 50000km on it ,the oil cap had become brittle maybe I tightened it too much but my point is im a mechanic and it didnt cost any thing to check for the broken piece. So if you are not mechanically minded it is well worth it topay someone to check it out.If something similar happensto you or even if it is a different problem it could save you thousands of dollars in the future. That littlr piece of plastic could have starved the engine of oil by breaking up and blocking oil galleries.so it pays to be fussy

hope this helps someone.

I'll add to this thread and say make sure you're vigilant of the tools you've used under the bonnet..

About 6 months back I found a screw driver just sitting in place up near the injectors.

No idea how long it had been there for... lol

And that's the reason why I have my nice shiny billet oil cap there, and not the standard plastic one. This appears to happen a bit too often for my liking.

*prevention is better than cure* :)

Lucky it wasnt a big costly experience for you mate

Are you sure it didnt happen from over tightening.

Mine broke at Nizpro the other day when it was gettig serviced.

Now I have a nice new one but might invest in a billet one.

Maybe Group Buy???

Just a blatantly obvious warning guys, the billet caps get fricken hot! Not that you would undo the cap when the car is running, but it takes a while for it to cool down, mine was still quite hot after a two hour rest one day!
