Whew lad! 13kw solar for $6900. Yay or nay?

seems like a pretty good price... but I know nothing about current solar pricing

6.6kw single phase for a touch under $3500. Ours is 3 phase so cost a bit more and also we'll be using a much bigger inverter.

Seems too cheap...I'd be wanting to know more about what inverter and panels they use at that price. Also, I'm not sure what the limits are, but I'm pretty sure if you go over 5kw inverter you're no longer eligible for government rebates...or maybe the power company won't buy back your excess power...I can't remember, and each state is a little different. It does seem a bit cheap though. For reference, decent quality packages for 5kw inverter and 6.6kw worth of panels was around $4-6k.

My current (no pun intended) supplier will buy back power from up to a 10kw inverter at 20c for a couple of years and then drop to 11c after that.

 

The inverter is a 10kw Solis inverter. It looks like they use Trina Solar panels. This is the place.

 

I know a dude who has the smaller 6.6kw system through them and is happy with it so far. He hasn't had it long though.

Well, if you can still get the buy-back for a 10kw system then go for it! Again though, I'd do a bunch of research on different inverters and panels before you commit. Have a good read up on Whirlpoor forums - plenty of good info about products, but there should also be a thread for your state where you'll be able to find out which installers are good and bad and who to avoid.

I'm thinking you have that around the wrong way
Pretty sure your inverter needs to be bigger than the total Kw available
ie: 5Kw of panels needs a 5.5Kw inverter

Single phase homes can only have a 5kw inverter or something like that.

 

Anywho I've been talking to a couple of local SA people and although I'm a tight arse I don't want to get the cheapest option and then have to fark around fixing it sooner rather than later. So yeah, I will be spending a bit more, which sucks, but I think it'll be worth it in the long run.

Incorrect. I have 6.6kw worth of panels as it means I get more power over the course of the day,as you can split the arrays for morning and evening. Maxes out at 5kw though.
