Still got a bunch of unpacking and organising to do next break...but the bulk is done to the point where I can live in the place. Need to replace an o-ring in the laundry tap when I get back, as that decided to start leaking when we turned the water back on after having changed the washer on the ensuite shower.Garage door didn't work either, so guy going there this morning to hopefully sort that out (pain in the ass having to do that manually!). Still waiting to be contacted by a sparky and handyman to get some other little issues sorted. Be nice once all the little things are taken care of and I can just enjoy chilling out on my breaks again.Been so exhausted since though...been early nights every night since flying back to work.

Got home last Tuesday night and the first time I had chance to actually stop and unwind was mid afternoon on the Sunday, at which point I sat down and watched a couple hours of tv and realised how farked I was. Pretty much come to the conclusion that I'm not moving again now until I buy my own place.

Posted 25/11/16 03:16 AM Share Posted 25/11/16 03:16 AM I see someone's brought up the negative gearing debate again: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-11-25/nsw-planning-minister-argues-against-negative-gearing/8056748 Personally I don't see a problem with people having one house to live in and one as an investment for income and to get them through retirement, my problem has always been with people having 4+ houses. The question I have never seen asked is why can't negative gearing be treated similar to the tax free threshold when you have more than one job and need to choose which one gets the TFT. So if you have two or more investment properties only one can claim negative gearing.

But im a bit get stuffed on the housing "crisis" atm. Its people being fussy and lame. Come here and live in an average as heck area and you can have a 4 bedroom brand new house 30 mins from the cbd for $300k or just under if u build. People need to learn they cant have cbd or residential housing close to cities like Melbourne and Sydney for cheap and they might have to either move or just buy for investment in another state. How many youngsters could buy actually sh*tty semi detached here for $160k rent it for $140 a week and then that's their foot in to the housing market for a year or 3. But no we will whinge about it instead coz we can't afford to buy a 4 bedroom house where our parents live. Fml In terms of negative gearing then I think they should cap it to an extent. However if someones smart enough to do it and take advantage of the system then I don't have an issue with them.owning 20 houses to be fair. Good on em.

My thoughts exactly. The suburbs I've been looking at are out Mandurah way, which some people think are a sh*thole.Sure there are some areas to stay away from but I've seen plenty of places for $265,000 to $300, 000 with decent sized 4 bedrooms (not those tiny little things with 60cm's left on each side of a double bed), double powered garages, new kitchens, bathrooms and solar on the roof, blocks over 700 (quite a few I visited were in the 1100 range) so plenty of space for a veggie patch & a few chooks (definitely something I'm going to do as a few people at work say both of these are one of the best things they've ever done)Multiple massive shopping centres, heaps of schools (I was really surprised how many schools there are) FTTP NBN in most of the surrounding suburbs, plenty of nice beaches & I always tend to find more of a holiday feel about the area.Sure it's an hours travel both ways but that's nothing for me.As it's probably the only place I will ever own & whilst I'm realistic about the fact I won't get a 100% perfect place, I'll have plenty of time to slowly do things to it & I should easily be able to get 80% - 90% of my wish list covered when I get the place. Posted 25/11/16 05:32 AM Share Posted 25/11/16 05:32 AM It helps that my dad is a housing carpenter with 40+ years experience, so I have all sorts of contacts through him plus my uncle has his own building supplies company (and a few private roads out Bullsbrook way ) so I can get trade price on just about anything. It's funny listening to my cousins at Christmas time whinging about not owning their own home, yet they go on about all the trips they take to Bali and Thailand??? They don't seem to realise that the house they are visiting that Christmas is the same one their parents owned and they grew up in or their aunt & uncle owned for 30+ years, they want new, they want it now, they want everything to be massive inside, they want the newest appliances, they want Foxtel and Netflix, they want, want, want. Some people need a real good b*tch slap to wake them the f*ck up! No I don't need a snickers, I just had 4 scotch and cokes at lunch time and I'm on a roll.
