Then got the 3 month suspension notice. Is it worth appealing it knowing I've already managed to get 5 demerits prior to this in the last year? Gonna be a massive PITA for work without being able to drive (3-400km average a week) but I don't want to be forking out $2k or more for legal fees if it doesn't work out. Last I checked it was $250 for the application to get your license back before a court ordered suspension. It's worth about an hours time for the lawyer so all up should be around the $550 to $600 mark. You just need to show that there is a possibility a judge might not take your license and then you will get it back immediately albeit temporarily. Of course if it's already been to court then you would just be wasting your time and money appealing imho. $600 would go a long way in taxi fares.

You can then contact the the ombudsman but its unlikely they will assist as its not really unjust. certainly worth appealing if you need it for work. You will need character references and to prove hardship. Try and claim for a good behaviour bond as it will work in your favor This will help http://www.lawaccess.nsw.gov.au/Pages/representing/lawassist_fines/lawassist_licence_fine/lawassist_appealingsuspension_fine.aspx
