Must be subconsciously trying to avoid work.

Every scientist I've spoken to, know of, read of and watch on the internet; all state this rough percentage of their colleagues - only around 10% "believe" in theistic power. It varies depending on culture, background, scientific field etc, but the actual "believers" are a small percentage (and getting smaller). The number should be small because to "believe" in something makes it contradictory to the scientific method, so you must separate your beliefs from your scientific processes. I'd imagine this sort of internal conflict may make a person uncomfortable. It's not a different view of thiesm or something in it's place in ones mind, it's the lack their of. I would be comfortable with making a sweeping generalization that if a god/s proved it's existence than this conversation wouldn't be happening. And If one were to appear, their would be no need to a be a believer or not as we would know it exists. And be careful of the witnesses, they are a dangerous bunch. Physiologically speaking. Discussions about how amazing the universe is as described by science (as compared to the fantasy novels we're discussing ) is even better than just pondering the universe (sometimes ). If you don't expand your horizons and learn about other views, you begin to loose empathy and your conversations and friend groups just become echo chambers.
