E2C, are you talking about this from a few months ago? :

Yep,

If I don't get a call tonight, I'm going to print out a few copies of a note advising I found the phone (with the Police report for it), after I drop it into the local Police station with the Police report number for my incident and tell them why I think it might be the same person, most people they wouldn't give two hoots about, but when I drop my uncles name, they'll listen.

He's a retired Assistant Police Commissioner and there are plenty of higher up's in the job he keeps in contact with, so that will put the wind up them not to slack off on this one.

I would always use that as a last resort, I find name dropping is just as effective usually.

The last thing a low level copper wants is extra aggravation from someone higher up that knows my uncle, the jobs not worth it as it is, they want general duties to be a jack of all trades, they don't get workers comp (although every so often their's rumors it's coming) and there's no real protection for a copper in the event some POS takes them to court, if they feel they've been unfairly treated.

You tend to find a lot of Police officers put their homes etc. in the spouse's name these days (I actually work with the father of one of the officers involved in this incident (http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/wa-cops-guilty-of-lockup-tasering-assault-on-kevin-spratt-20140121-316tr.html as it is he was sent to prison soon after anyway http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/taser-victim-kevin-spratt-jailed-for-assaulting-wa-police-20140625-zslbe.html) my best friend was a cop for more than 6 years and he got out because there's no real protection for you, judges don't deal with some of the drugged up people that are near superhuman strength because their usual inhibitions are gone, you try to do the best thing at the time and even that can bite you badly depending on how the media or the persons lawyer paints the picture of what happened, I have a friend that's an ex-Police prosecutor that got out because the lawyers were starting to talk back to the judges.

By name dropping, I'm just saying, I'm not trying to make your life difficult but just so you now, this is who I know.

If I find something else has happened to my car in the next week or so afterwards, I can go back then (my dad mentioned my uncle's name when his work vehicle was broken into a few years back and a forensics team dusted the car within hours) or get the uncle to get them to dust for prints (when I reported the original incident I was told if there's no blood for DNA evidence they usually don't attend these incidents) they then might have have prints from the car and the details for the phone owner, so that's a lead, at least if they pay the person a visit, that's going to at least make them sh*t their pants and maybe re-think ever coming back again.

I won't say any more, except that my uncle is not the only avenue I have for sorting out the problem, I have family members with contacts on both sides of the law.

Ill say it... name dropping .... in the form youre using it... I find extremely tacky.

And if youre uncle is willing to put an abundance of extra resources into a couple badges and trim missing then that's the police force failing.

People who genuinely have contacts on "either side of the law" dont go bragging about it on the interwebs.

And if they do it usually johnny no body who also posted a wad of $20 notes in his hand with the caption "baller baller" or some garbage...

Its a car... who gives a sh*t.. like yes ita annoying and people are scum but that's why we have insurance.

I for one would prefer the forensics team out dusting the old ladys house who got broken into last night by some asshole while she was sleeping who could have killed her with a heart attack or did.

But meh
