sandwiches and sandwich's are both acceptable grammar because the apostrophe implies a missing "e", in this context. You can also use the apostrophe for ownership of the sandwich in question.

 

cars doesn't have a missing letter, so you can't use "car's" unless you're using the apostrophe to imply ownership to the car in question.

google's automatic correction is not the be all and end all of acceptable grammar ;)

sandwiches is probably MORE correct, but sandwich's is fine.
