The final farewell certainly cements Hammond and May's stance on following Clarkson in his next endeavour, and not sticking around for the reboot next year; though I'm not sure it'll ever be quite the same - but that's probably the point.

So yes, thanks chaps for years of entertainment and goodbye (for now).

Yeah I was watching that last night too (in between surfing the web)....but the way they said goodbye at the end made it sound like Top Gear is finished forever?

So what is actually happening? Season 23 with just captain slow and Richard *beep*? Will they add some third 'funny' guy....

Or completely new cast as you say they are following Clarksons next endeavour? And what is said endeavour?

Or is it all still rumours/people speculating about shiz....

The BBC intends for Top Gear to carry on, with or without Clarkson. There's a lot of rumour and speculation, as you might imagine, like one example being Hammond and May being offered large sums to stick around next year. The only currently confirmed host for Top Gear 3.0 (Top Gear has been around since 1977 believe it or not, but started anew with the crew we know and love in 2002) is radio presenter Chris Evans, noted for his love for Ferraris that are all white and all crazy expensive. He was a Star in a Reasonably Priced Car one time, and while a different personality to the others, wasn't unfunny or unentertaining, so he could be okay given the chance.

He's gotten blessings from Clarkson, Hammond and May, so it's just the rest of the world he has to convince now. Auditions are currently in the works for other co-hosts (including discussions of at least one female presenter), or the show could take the route of some other light entertainment programs on the BBC and have rotating hosts each episode or season. So yeah, Hammond and May have made it pretty clear they're not going to abandon a mate, and will not be returning to Top Gear when it returns next year. Current word is that several other places are courting Clarkson as he develops his next car-oriented show, with the most well-known being Netflix and the silly possible name of the show "Game of Cars" but nothing is certain and might not be for a while yet.

In short:

- No, Top Gear is not over, but it's current guise is.

- No, Hammond and May aren't returning, they intend to go with Clarkson wherever he ends up.

- Top Gear will return next year with new hosts, with Chris Evans the only one confirmed.

- No-one knows for sure what the trio's new show will be like, where it'll air, or how well it'll do.

3.0 might stand a chance if they could get Chris Harris onboard....doesn't Mark Webber live in the UK, the more I've seen of him outside of F1 the more I like his dry blunt personality...dude needs to loosen up.

Chris Harris would be a good technical driver ala Tanner Faust on Top Gear USA, but with better personality.

But I think he's content where he is right now, and always displayed huge respect for the Top Gear boys to the point where he might feel he couldn't live up to their standard entertainment-wise (but he's about the only other motoring journo that I like, so...). Webber? You're definitely right about needing to loosen up, but he's an even more technical driver than Harris, so I couldn't imagine having two similar types on the same show (plus Harris can articulate his words more engagingly) but yeah, Webber's his own sort.

I'm not making a wishlist of co-hosts with Evans because I'm such a diehard that, to sound like a mum, 'they're irreplaceable.'

But who knows! Next year will be very interesting, despite my immense pessimism.

Prime example as to why hew hosts will blow, TG will never have the character and charisma again without the trio at the helm.

How many eps have you watched and which seasons? I found they were crap in the beginning season....but now I actually don't mind it (when they aren't trying to copy UK episodes lol). After you watch a few, they are actually sometimes funny....and Tanner Foust is a sick driver (I guess drifters do make sh*t look easy).

This guys got ambitions! I think the offsets would be wrong for a UTE but....
