when I was a kid ,not thaaaat long ago , xmas stocking with a few chocs and an orange (?)

and maybe 3 pressies under the tree. One of which, was and still to this day is a book ftw

Started off spoiling my kids rotten as I had the money and wanted them to have more than I had.

Spoiled for choice they soon got bored.

The next best popular theme became an expectation.

Creates brats and a sense of entitlement IMO. Just because Billy has one

Only real winners were the Salvo's 6 months later.

Kids can create their own play by using their imaginations.

Trust me this generational divergence is creating havoc in recruitment as the same job vacancy

needs to be sold to multiple targets as do the replies. Due to differing expectations.

In other words if you never expect too much you are never disappointed.

I personally think Xmas is a time that kids get taught that no matter how naughty they are through the year that Santa will still bring em whatever they want .... I think it used to be about earning things and behaving but now there is no coal in stockings. It's every one is a good child blah blah. Absolute rubbish if u ask me and is one of the many reasons children today grow up with little sense of responsibility and a large sense of entitlement.

Buffy after last Xmas I was totally exactly onboard with everything you just said!!!

Last Xmas one of the kids begged and begged for a furby thingo ($99) after we had done all the Xmas shopping

And who, never even got removed from its wrapping and never got touched and when we moved we got the kids to go through all the stuff and give toys to salvos, she picked this $100 never played with toy!!!

I went off my nutter!

Any who long story short, I am always a grinch but this Xmas have vowed to try and be nicer, it's really though being a parent and even tougher being a STEP parent.

If I continue with my values then we give the kids one or two things each which is only fair coz they get shat loads at home, but then I'm the mean step mum who doesn't give them any presents.

It also makes it tough when aunties spend a ridiculous amount on the kids to fulfil their own need to have more children and then u look like a carnt for buying nothing.

Lucky I'm a savvy shopper.

The kids got about $100 each on em (this is their second home) (the eldest got a bit more because she does appreciate it and does help out lots around the place and also older ids stuff is expensive)

And hudo got about $400- keeping in mind it's his first Xmas he can half comprehend

It's a really tough call for me but Ya do what ya gotta do

Fluff we are probably in violent agreement.

Ultimately you want your kids to work hard and reap reward for effort.

Not expect it. The balance isn't easy.

My xmas question to my kids ( mid - late teens) is not what you want but what do you need.

Answer is invariably nothing material. Nuff said. They get it.

This is why I'm not hAving a second kid ...

That and a rear facing child seat can't fit in a brz

And my current child is trying to get hold of my sav Blanc while I'm trying to watch golf and read a story to him

Totally agree with fluffy todays kids just dont get the concept of gifts these days they know either way they will get something. Also they get WAY to much

I rather give just enough so they can appreciate the valve of what they have. Try tell the wife that bloody hell.

Morning all

off to school today my girl is receiving a big special award.

Wow.. My son turns 2 just after christmas..

At this age we don't see any point getting him more than 1 big christmas and 1 big birthday present.. The rest is what grandparents are for..

Regardless of your circumstances your friends should value you for who you are not what you have.
