My dad worked shift work so Mum got thebulk of dealing with a very recalcitrant teen.I was super naughty.Could escape from justabout anywhere, Full of self righteous indignation of courseAfter the failure of many wooden spoons mum resorted to the PVChandle of the duster. Yarrrrroooo , worse if you got your knuckles in the way trying to protect the back of your legs and butt. After presenting said weapon to my kids and grannies anecdotesthe fear of a "larrupp" did the trick.Best punishment was being sent to my room.Plenty of books in there. Too many to removeI have never raised a hand to my kids( both mid-late teens now) never had to.Accidently called my son a dickhead under my breath for a misjudgment.Gutted him. It's all about managing expectations for the kids. Do stupid you will be called to explain.Far more humiliating once you get through the dunno'sStupid is and stupid does.Clear rules and boundaries. If parents do not respect themselveswhat hope their offspring.?Parents have to take responsibility. That is another thread

But even at young ages I can already see the difference. Daycare drop off for the little guy.. Hold the gate open for the massive stream of parents and kids.. I reckon 1 in 2 kids that is old enough to will say thank you.. But maybe 1 in 4 of the parents says thank you or offers to hold the gate while I get out of the road.Hell I've even seen parents encouraging their kids to throw stuff at road workers..
