Shy mate be careful on trying to write off an FG2 XR6T Ute as a business expense.. You'll get screwed by the tax office under 1 tonne load rating. Heaps of people get away with rooting the tax office.. But just be warned that you can't claim 100% business on a falcon and you need to keep a pretty accurate logbook..

Just being a ute doesn't mean you can claim everything.. You can only claim based on the usage. My old bird works for the tax office and (yes she's evil) they delight in rooting out people who claim these sort of vehicles as 100% business..

Keep the logbook and you can only claim on the % of business kilometres.

If you want to claim absolutely everything.. No questions asked.. By a Hilux or a Triton.

The one tonne thing comes in to play with FBT exemption, but it's still not primarily designed to carry passengers so is exempt.

You can't "claim" anything as a business expense, that phrase is misleading and incorrect.

The only things that are claimed on tax returns in this regard are legitimate costs that go towards earning your taxable income, I.e. a personally incurred expense as an employee - which could be vehicle expenses to carry tools of trade for example.

But if you are actually running a business you can account for it as an expense, then the tax is calculated on your profit. In very crude terms.

Plus Shy when going for Ford discount has to be rego'd in private name and not business, if business you won't get discount at all. I have my own business and could not rego it under it, personal use only.
