Another lengthy Buf post. Be warned. This time Buf the environmentalist and good samaritan.

Out in the yard this arvo and see this Currawong struggling obviously injured and barely able to walk

let alone fly getting dive bombed by the rats of the sky ( Minor Birds ). I have a Currawong that basically

resides in my yard , but it wasn't this one as whilst nearly normal size was either a juvenile or a smaller female.

What to do now ? Let fly with a few projectiles at airborne rodents which seemed to deter them.

Went to Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service website for some direction.

Proceeded to cover the obviously injured bird with a washing basket ( yes I do own one) for protection and containment.

Phoned WIRES who said they would send out a rescuer.

Anyway, the main Currawong shows up and investigates the washing basket. Both birds

clearly distressed. After a time the main bird flys off and comes back with a large insect and proceeds to try

and feed the injured one through the gaps in the basket.

Whilst this was touching, it was causing the injured bird more distress. After a while the main bird flys off.

Meanwhile rescuer arrives, collects injured bird and heads off to vet.

A while later main bird returns with more food for the now confirmed juvenile.

It has spent the last hour and a half coming and going revisting the position it last saw the injured bird

looking completely bewildered. I don't know if it's because I'm a dad , but I felt a bitcrybaby.gif

WIRES has called me to say that the injured bird after some repairs will go into a volunteers

care for a few weeks and will be released into my backyard.

Hopefully the family will be re-unitedspoton.gif

Would have been quicker to wring it's neck than type this post. JOKING

BTW WIRES is an awesome not for profit organisation run and manned by volunteers. Hugebuttrock.gif

to those guys. Good job

No sarcasm mate - genuine emotion there

Wonder what the best method would be, slow-roast or braised? How old do you think it is?
