I was thinking the same thing.

if aluminium doesn't have a coating it will oxidise no matter what you might throw at it

 

we use "ally brite" or "aluminium mag wheel cleaner" which basically have the same active ingredients 

the active ingredients are HERE

 

it removes the surface oxidization and the surface will look white-ish

we use it by first wetting the surface to be treated with water,  then applying the product with a soft bristle brush like a plastic banister brush,  then wash again with water

if you get any streaking, just repeat the process taking care to apply evenly

it is a chemical,  so rubber gloves and a face shield are the order of the day

 

after it has been in the weather for a week or so it will look like it did when it was brand new, (grey-ish)
